My daughter is 11 weeks old. She had been pretty regular on her sleep at night. She would go to sleep between 9-10 at night and sleep until at least 3 a.m. and then again anywhere between 5-7 a.m. However the past week, she changed and will now get up at 1-1:30 eat, got back down until 3-4 a.m. eat and go back down again until 7-8 a.m. After that, she goes to my moms and sometimes sleeps and sometimes not. I don't think she is sleeping enough. She doesn't like to take naps, maybe two, most the time one with a few power naps as we call them. Then on the weekends when my husband & I have her, all she wants to do is sleep. My mom has tried everything to change her schedule and she wants nothing to do with it. Any one have any suggestions or gone through this?

What can I do next?

Could be a growth spurt, with wanting to eat more often. Just go with the flow, babies that young are sort of on "auto-pilot". The just seem to know what they need and will let you know. Like I said, just try to relax and go with it.

Good luck!

I agree with Karen and Dana. She will sleep when she's tired and I think she just hit a growth spurt. My son did this. He was an awesome sleeper, but all of a sudden started waking up in the middle of the night to nurse and nurse and nurse. He couldn't get enough. After about a week to 10 days, he was back on track.

I hate to depress you but, my kids have terrible sleep habits. My son is now 9 months and was sleeping through the night at 3 months. He now wakes up 3 and 4 times. I feel like I can't even function from the sleep deprevation. But, my daughter who is now 3 started sleeping through the night finally, 2 weeks before the baby was born. I haven't had a full nights sleep in over 3 years.
On the more helpful side, I have found, the more they sleep in the day the better they sleep at night. I mean regular naps! My 3 year old takes 1 nap and my 9 mo old will sleep better at night if I can get him to take atleast 2 naps in the day. I think they get overly tired and then they can't sleep and that's what keeps them up.
Hope I helped...if not atleast you are not alone!

I wouldn't push it. My oldest seemed like he never slept at that age! It was like he was awake for days and then he'd sleep for a day!!! Eventually, he settled into some sort of schedule and now (ata 17 mos) his day runs like clockwork. If she's been resistant to attempts at putting her on a schedule, at this point she knows what she needs and she will sleep when she's tired (unless something is preventing it like a wet diaper, stomachache, etc). As long as she doesn't seem overtired during her awake hours, I wouldn't worry about getting enough sleep.

When my oldest son was that age, we had to add rice cereal to his formula - he was too hungry to sleep at night. My doctor wasn't happy but my son was hungry and wanted to eat every hour. He also gained some weight because of the added starch to his diet but he's healthy. We were able to get about 5 hours a night sleep. After a few days, the time got longer because he wasn't growing as fast and didn't need to eat as much. It will get better. At 4 months, he decided it was time to put himself on a sleep schedule.

I hate to be the one to break this to you, but baby's don't really get a regular sleep schedule until they're around 16 weeks old. Just sit tight - she'll straighten herself out soon enough. She'll sleep when she's tired, so as long as you and your mom are putting her down when she seems like she needs to, I wouldn't worry about it. Babies are smarter than we give them credit.

My kids didn't get on a sleep schedule until about 4 months. The excitement of them just being babies made it so hard to put them to bed at a certain time! They are 19 months and almost 3 and they sleep like perfect angels!
