I'm not sure I understand your question, but a 1 year old should sleep about 12-15 hours a day INCLUDING 2 naps. The following link may help answer your question. It says "1 year: 10 to 11 hours plus two naps (1 to 2 hours each)"

Hope it helps~ J.

I wouldn't! I would just plan on getting up a little earlier in the morning maybe, or maybe not. Kids go through sleep patterns and growth spurts. Maybe the baby just needs some extra sleep.

I always let my kids sleep their own schedule. Depends on if you're trying to get the baby on a regular schedule or if you just let him/her make his own schedule. Babies don't sleep too much, they'll wake when hungry. When mine were small (4 or 5 months even) I always worried cuz they would have one long stretch of sleep usually about 7 hours long but was told by the doctor that this was good for them and to try to focus the longer period in the evening/night time to get them regulated. My kids always loved sleep. Now they're older and up at the crack of dawn. (except for the teenager that wants to sleep til noon)

Dear M.,

No, don't wake him up, unless the doctor has told you to do so for an extra feeding. Has he gone to bed in the late afternoon for a nap? If that is why you are worried, then you need to give him a short nap in the a.m., and then another one right after lunch, and be sure to wake him up about 2:30 or 3:00 so that you can put him to bed at 8:00 in the evening. It says it in the child development books - children of that age need rest. That is one reason that the get unreasonable. They are tired. Older people are like that too. We nap and thanks to God for that. We aren't so cranky and we enjoy life more too. You can drop the a.m. nap when you see that he doesn't need it, but you need to keep the after lunch rest going until he goes to school. As he gets older, then he can lay on his bed and play quietly, but he needs to rest when he is 4 and 5 too. Yes, I am right.

I realize that families do not take nap time seriously now a days, but it is a serious matter, the children's bodies and minds are accomplishing a lot of things, and they need rest. with a capital R. O.K.? C. N.

I would let him sleep. Like the previous message said, one year olds need at least 15 hours of sleep plus two naps a day. See it as a blessing that your son is sleeping at night. I have known a few parents that could not get their little ones to sleep until extremely late at night and then the baby would sleep most of the day. If your son was sleeping most of the day away, then it would be a good idea to wake him up during daylight hours to get him in a normal sleeping routine, especially since most of us parents enjoy a good night’s sleep and some nice quiet time with our significant other. ^.^

A good mothers rule of thumb - never wake a sleeping baby! If your son needs something, he is perfectly capable of waking up on his own and letting you know. The hours he is sleeping are hours that his little body NEEDS for sleep, or else he'd be awake.

Just let him be, and he'll wake up in his own time - its not like he's a newborn preemie or something that has to be awoken to be fed. He'll let you know when he needs something.
