Any suggestions on how to get my 1 year old to sleep past the 5:50's. She wakes up every morning at 5:50, 5:52, 5:51, etc... It's like an internal clock goes off at these times. Always in the 5:50's.

My only suggestion is to get up with her. My daughter did the same thing at this age. It was sooo early for me. I would take her in the living room and try to get her interested in a toy. She was up for the day. She was not interested in T.V. at this age. She still is not interested at age 7. I would lay on the couch and sometimes almost cry because I was not ready to get up. She would play with a toy or pull up on the couch and play with my face. I really never got used to this stage. Now if she wakes early (6:30 a.m.) she can play in her room or read a book. Hang in there, it gets better. I miss her playing with my face. :-)

Not to rain on your parade but that may be her "wake up" time. My youngest son wakes up everyday at 5 something ready to face his day. He has been like that since he was a baby. I apparently did the same thing to my Mom so she says I deserve it. Good luck to you.

My daughter (15 months) does the SAME thing. This week she has stayed asleep until 6:30 so we're very excited. I actually freaked out the first time she did it and asked my husband to come with me to check on her :-)

Bottom line, it's her clock. I've learned not to fight it. I work part time out of the home so I know it's frustrating not to get regular sleep and then be expected to function like everyone else. My ped says consistency is the key. Same routine, same bedtime and it will work itself out. I don't go straight in to her and sometimes she will occupy herself for about 30 minutes.

Be strong, these days don't last and are precious.

I know you probably miss sleeping in but you may have to adjust your sleeping schedule for awhile. Take naps when baby naps and go to bed earlier. If her internal clock goes off at almost 6 am, then it is her time to get up. Nothing wrong with that.

My son is an early riser too. He wakes up around 6:30 am most mornings regardless of how much or little sleep he gets and he is 4. We put him to bed earlier so he gets plenty of rest.

Good Luck to you.

LOL, yeah I've had this problem with both my boys (3 yrs and 10 months) if it lasts longe then a week, I just start putting them to bed 10 minutes earlier each night until I find the magic number... took me a while to figure this out with my first child, a friend suggested it, I was willing to try anything at that point. He ended up going to bed about 40 minutes earlier, doesn't actually go to sleep more than 15 minutes earlier than before, but he regularly sleeps til 7:00 now.

Is her room dark enough? If not, perhaps you need to hang curtains with black-out lining. Is anyone else up at this time - her dad, a dog, a cat, the next door neighbor who slams doors? If this is the case, perhaps using a sound machine set on low to drown out external noises may help.
Best of luck.

You can try the "good nite lite" (goodnitelite.com) it changes from a moon to sun when it is time to wake up.
