Sleep Sacks for Larger Babies

My 8-month old is already about 25 lbs- so big. I'm looking for sleep sacks for the coming winter, but most of them are too small. Does anyone know of a store or a brand of sleep sack I could search for online that carries sleep sacks for larger babies?

I'm also wondering, about materials for sleep sacks. Almost all of the sleep sacks I've seen in stores, in catalogs and online are made from fleece. I'm wondering if this will be warm enough? I know that I like to have a down comforter in the winter time, in addition to a lighter blanket. Does it make sense that my baby would need something a little heftier than just fleece as well?

We lived in Arizona when my first son was an infant, so didn't have to deal with these issues the first time around. This is new territory for me.

Thanks for any help you can give!

M.

I gave up sleep sacks after 6 months of age, and went straight to the warm ones with the footies. Your little guy can move around better that way, stand, and start to walk around furniture with those on. Then just a regular quilt will be plenty to keep warm even if he kicks it off.

Hey, M.! Halo makes a sleep sack that goes up to 3T. They're available at Babies R Us, usually, and you can find them online as well (http://www.toysrus.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=h.... However, I would really recommend a blanket sleeper instead of a sleep sack. My daughter (17 months) refuses to use a blanket when she's sleeping. She just kicks them off. And the blanket sleepers keep her nice and toasty without the blanket. They best ones I've found are available from Children's Place (larger feet, a little roomier). They usually have them 3 for $30. If you don't have a store close to you, then you can check out their website at www.childrensplace.com.

We use a sleep sack from www.pampersack.com They are a little pricey in my opinion but well worth it for the quality...they are very thick and plush. My little one can not sleep in anything but cotton so the blanket sleepers do not work for us since they are usually from polyester. I did buy two but you could easily get away with just one if you do your laundry during the day.

Good Luck

Don't you want to just go to pjs at this time? At 8 months they are crawling and soon will be standing and trying to walk. Will a sleep sack really work when they are pulling themselves up in bed and standing? Just wondering if you are thinking down the road a bit of what is soon happening. Do not want them to be something you use once and they are done. Would be a waste of money.
