Hello all! I had heard that you can skip your sugar pills (the last set of 7 birth control pills) to skip your period. I called my gyn, and they said it was fine to do occasionally. (We were taking a short out of town vacation.) Well now, about 12 days into the new pack, I got my period...I feel crappy, moody and sad! LOL! (Dont think Ill try it again!) Anyone ever do this, and did something similar happen? I am on ortho-tricyclen lo.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

i did once on ortha evera i think that is how it is spelled and i bleed for like a month and a half straight never knew why though so do keep and eye on that and how long you bleed be sure to let your doctor know on the 8th day that you are still bleeding and maybe even tell him/her that you are bleeding after skipping the sugar pills and continued with the b/c pills i hope all goes well

Hi, A.,

When taking a triphasic Pill like the one your mentioned, the amount of hormone in each of the weeks changes, so it is more likely that you will bleed irregularly if you try to skip a period. Remember that the Pill basically tricks your body into thinking it is pregnant (hormonally speaking) and each "period" is really a withdrawal bleed. So, what you've done by continuing pills is made your progestin levels go from zero - low - high - higher - low - high, and then you started bleeding. It's chemically similar to having a miscarriage, though you weren't pregnant, so this is why you feel so yucky.

Call your gyn to make sure, but they'll probably tell you to just finish the pack that you're taking as usual. Your next period may be a few days later and lighter than what you normally have.

Peace,
H.

I have tried that too! It was for mine & my husbands anniversary, we we're going out of town to Amelia Island, and of course I didn't want to have my period. Well, I skipped the sugar pills, it was a couple of days before our weekend, and I got my period that Friday! Great, and to top it off, I had it for 6 weeks. I was on Yasmin at the time, and now I'm on Ovcon 35. I am still to scared to try it again! I used to be on Ortho Tricyclen before I had my daughter, and I used to do this all the time. I never once had a problem, so maybe it's not the right pill for you?? Not really sure, hope you find the answer though!
