My kids ages 13, 10, 8 and 6 got skateboards for Christmas and have been learing how to ride them with my husband who grew up riding his. They have been having a blast and my husband loves the fact that he has found a way to re connect to the older two who are usually more into their phones and video games now days. Well finding a place to skate isnt always easy and I am looking for good well lit low traffic places they can go (and I can walk as they have their fun) as well as looking for local skate parks that are not overly expensive, not only for recreational time but I was thinking also for my 10 year olds birthday party that is coming up in 2 months.

What can I do next?

Thank you to everyone for the great advice. I will be checking out most of these places. I am hoping to find a great one (and affordable) to have my sons birthday party at next month. Thanks again!!!

There is a skate park at Lone Star Park right off of Beltline in Grand Prairie. The last time I went to Grapevine Mills Mall there was one inside the mall near the movie theater - but that was a couple of years ago so it may not be there any longer.

Hi Ronni - I found this place in Plano while networking for my kid shuttle business-http://www.eisenbergs.com/index.php

I haven't used the facility as I've never skateboarded, but maybe it'll work for your family. Good luck!

Hi,
I don't know how close you are to the Wylie area, but they have a small skate park near an elementary school (Birmingham Elem). It's really nice and there is a small park across the street from the skate park.

If you go to this web page, it will show you a few pics of the dedication and it also lists other parks in the Wylie area.
I hope that this helps a little...
Take care!

I am not sure where you live, but there is a free skate park in Wylie off of Brown and Westgate. It is always busy, so it seems like the kids (and adults) love it.

Ronni,
Our son Ethan goes regularly to 2 skate parks nearby where we live in Plano. I'm not sure what area your family resides, but we take Ethan to a city Skate Park in Allen near downtown just east of Greenville Avenue. The other is in Downtown Plano called Eisenbergs. The Allen Skate Park is free of charge and is very nice. It is outdoor and huge so there is a lot of room for all the skaters and bikers, etc. Eisenbergs is on 15th east of Central and is an indoor skate park. We purchased a partial pass for him and his entry costs $7 per day and I believe normal cost is $15/day... He usually goes to both locations for a little over a year now with no problems whatsoever with the crowd or people running the locations. I hope this helps even a little. L.

I know there is one in Plano, and one (owned by the city) in Rowlett.

The one in Plano is in the Main St. area and it does not cost much. The one in Rowlett, I have no idea, but I am guessing it does not cost much, seeing how it is owned by the city.

Good luck!
E.

Lake Pointe church in Rockwall has a skate park! Get in your skating and church at the same place!

I go to church there but don't have school age kids, so I don't know much about it. But, here is the website:

There are free outdoor (larger) skate parks with street and bowls in Irving and Allen. There is Eisenbergs in Plano which is an indoor park which seems more kid friendly to me since it's not cement but it's expensive, $15 a day. They do have a half off day on Tuesdays and after 7pm and all kinds of packages you should check them out. I know there are some ramps too in Rockwall, Harry Myers Park, that seem great for kids and beginners. My husband still skates and usually goes to Allen since it's free it just gets crazy busy on nice days as should be expected. Our four year old loves skating too and has been to Eisenbergs a few times and everyone is super cool about watching out for him. If these are not close to you then check out http://www.skateboardpark.com/skateboardpark/parksearch.a...
for a full list of parks in Texas. Good luck and I hope they have an awesome time chillin with their dad! =)
