I have a beautiful little girl almost 11 months and have been giving her baths in a little baby tub. She likes it but now she keeps trying to stand up. My only other options are our whirlpool but that is too big for her or our shower. Any suggestions, I can get her to stay sitting?
I tried putting her in the tub but that was worse. It gave her more room to move around and it was harder to keep her sitting. I'm going to try the bath chair next.

I also have a whirlpool tub and have moved my 11 month old out of the baby tub a couple months ago and into the big tub. I use a bath tub seat, it is all open but there are big wide places for him to put his legs in between. It has suction cups on the bottoms so it stays put. He has never tried to crawl out because he enjoys sitting up and splashing. Plus I wash both my kids in the bath at once and there isn't a problem. Good Luck A.

This probably is super annoying, but I bet it's really cute at the same time! No advice, just thought I'd let you know that the thought of that is so sweet. Aren't babies a riot?

Hi! I went from the baby tub to the bath chair then to the big tub. Made things easier. I love the bath chair because it's so nice. No worries about standing or tipping. Once we got to the big tub (at about 10 months old), that's when we started the wars of sitting. Once I see that little bottom start coming up, I sit him down and tell him that he can't stand in the tub unless he's going to get out. It took a couple times, but it works. You just have to keep reminding him that he can't stand in the tub.

K., I had the same problem with my daughter and especially my son and I bought a bath chair that pretty much keeps them sitting. You can find them at Target, Babies R Us, WalMart, etc. Hope that helps! Good Luck!

We had the same problem until this weekend with our 9mth old. She constantly stood in the baby tub but is too little (IMO) for the larger tub. We purchased a baby bath tub "seat" and it's worked out great. I give her time to splash around in the larger tub (with just a couple inches of water) and then fill in a little more warm water and give her the actual bath with her in the seat.
BTW-- I found several tub seats in great condition at Once Upon a Child for under $10.
Hope this helps and good luck!

When my daughter was six months old we started to bathe together in our whirlpool tub and she adored it. We would start with just a few inches in the tub while we soaped up and washed and then fill it up for swimming time. It was a wonderful way to bond and she loved every minute of it as did I.

You could try the kitchen sink, laundry room sink even use one of those bath rings to keep her in one spot. You could take a bath with her or let her play on the floor in the shower while you shower and then bathe her quick. You could put her in a laundry basket with toys in the shower of course you'd be in there too and that might keep her occupied for a little bit.

11 months is probably too big for a baby tub. And(forgive me) but forget trying to get her to stay still(though obviouslt she needs to sit). If she's anything like my daughter those days are over. I'm not sure what your whilrpool tub is like, but at Target, you can purchase a small inflatable tub that is bigger than her baby tub, but not as big as a regular tub. They are under 20$ She can sit up and move around it. Otherwise, is the whirlpool tub isn't huge, you may want to try it, using only a low amount of water and something for slipping like a mat or towel in the bottom. She may do all right. If she tries to stand up, tell her to sit down in the tub, using a lowering motion with your hand, or sitting her down yourself. If she persists, bath time is over. If my daughter sees me get out her towel, she sits right down. Good luck!

Hey K., I have a 3 yr old little girl and I went through the same thing. Now my daughter just takes showers. She started about the same age your daughter did and for the same reasons. Showers are just safter for kids who like to stand. When she was just starting out I (or my husband) took showers with her. She loved them! So to be safe, just do the showers. You may be surprised how much she enjoys the water spraying down on her.
When my kids were little, I set them in a large laundry basket in the tub. It keeps them in one place and also keeps their toys near them too...

I shouldn't give any advice because I have the same problem with my 13 month son. I have been trying to teach him to sit in the tub - it is dangerous to stand up. So when he stands I say 'sit down' and then if he doesn't I take him out for 30 seconds or so and then put him back in the tub. He knows what 'sit down' means and he doesn't like getting out of the tub, but he doesn't seem to connect the two yet. It has only been a week so I guess I will give it more time.

I have a 5 month old girl and we've been taking baths together in our big tub for about 3 months. It's a fun bonding time for us and I wanted her to get used to the deeper water right way. She loves it. She just sits between my legs and sometimes I float her around on her back. We even tried a whirl pool tub together on a trip. I just look at as a big swimming pool for her. At some point when she can sit up by herself, I'll let her bath by herself. Maybe a few baths together with your daughter in the big tub will get her used to it. Also, my baby tub (which I used a few times early on) converts into a chair to be put right into the big tub. I haven't tried this yet because she's been too little and honestly I love bathing with her.
Good Luck!

Both my boys disliked being in the baby tub - so pretty much from the begining either mu husband or I took one with the baby in the big tub.
We found they liked it more they could lay and listen to the water and we could let the water run over the back of their heads which they loved....
Any way try taking one with her - she will LOVE it!

Hi K.,
I have a little boy who is eight months old and we recently got a blow-up tub to put it in the regular tub for his baths. It's in the shape of a duck and it acutally "quacks" when the bill is pressed. He loves it and thinks he's in a small swimming pool. Maybe this would work. I found it at Target, but I'm sure other places would have it as well.
Good luck!

My son did that around 7 months old, so then I got a bath ring that he could sit in. It worked great. I also take him in the shower with me (I am a single mom, it is the easiest way to get a shower, and gets us both done at the same time.) and I just make him sit down and give him some toys. He used to hate getting water in his face and cry, but he has gotten used to it and loves it now!

I used a tub ring for my daughter when she got fiesty in the tub. It worked out great. She actually preferred showers. From the time she was able to hold her head up on her own I just took her in the shower with me and put the ring inthe tub to have her sit so I could tend to myself. But I highly recommend a tub ring. You can find them at Target, Wal-mart, or even K-mart.

I have a 9 month old. We used the infant tub for a while, until I discovered it was easier to just take her in the shower with me. Then when she was about 6 months old we bought her a bath seat....it worked great! Once she was able to start sitting up, I took the bath seat away and now she just sits or lays in the tub. She is able to splash and play with her bath toys. I sit on the floor right next to the tub and she will pull herself up on the edge of the tub to say hello to me. I am always within an arms reach of her and she loves her big girl baths!!

Hello, we have three little boys and ever since they lost their cords they have showered with us. Our two older ones now take a bath and sit very nice. We are having the same problem with our 13month old. He has even started trying to stand up in his tub seat. I have been tossing him in the shower with my husband. When he is done washing him up he hollars and I come and get him out.
One thing that keeps him occupied in the tub (sometimes a shower just isn't feesable) is leaving the water running. He loves to play in that stream. It works until I have to rinse his head and then it is all over.
Hope it helps.

Hi K..
We also use a bath seat. But the one we have is a bit different then the other person posted. The one we have is a bit wider in the leg area. Which is good for us lol. My kids all had chubby legs and it is easier getting them in and out of it.
Our bath chair has big suction cups on the bottom so it doesn't move around in the tub. All our kids have done fine in it. We fill our tub less then 2 inches.

Aquababy makes a bath seat that keeps your baby in the sitting position. It has a toy bar to keep her busy and maybe she'll stop wanting to stand up. Here's a website with a picture of it. http://www.lullabyebaby.com/juvenile_sol/baby_bath_seat.htm I am considering one myself for my 11 month old girl with the same issue.

With both my kids I used the inflatable tub that you put into yourbig tub. I loved it bc - ok I'm a little lazy and you only HAVE to wash the smaller tub AND it was very very safe! It was pretty cheap and I saw it recently at USA baby and target...

I had the same issue with my little guy. I bought a skid proof mat and let him in the tub w/that and like 4 inches of h2o. He eventually got over the standing. Probably because I sat there and sat him down every 2 seconds!! Or they do sell bath seats. Maybe that would work? GOOD LUCK!

Hello. When my son started standing up in the bath, I switched from a baby tub to one of those Rubbermaid containers. They're made for storage, and I usually put my winter clothes in them, but they make one that's the perfect size for baths. If your daughter is sitting in it, the water should only reach about shoulder high (maximum), and she should be able to stretch her legs out with plenty of room to spare. I hope this helps.

Go buy one of those little inflatable bath tubs with the big fat sides. Put it in your bathtub and fill it like a little pool. They are a great transition into a big tub. Little ones don't have their balance right away in water, they tend to flop a bit. With the little inflatable tubs, they won't slip and bonk their head on the hard bathtub floor. It's a great way to start explaining big tub rules, without putting them in danger by giving them a bath in the big tub. It also makes a great bouncy toy when it's not in the tub. I think their fairly cheep too. We did this with our daughter and she loved her little tub and so did we. When we finally made the transition to a real bathtub, we put a small towel on the bottom so she could get a little bit of a grip with her but. If these ideas don't work, you could always do kitchen sink baths until she gains better balance to be in a big kid tub.

Hi K.,
My little girl has the same problem about wanting to stand in the tub. She is just over 2 years old. We told her that the rules are you have to sit when you are in the tub. As soon as she starts to kneel or try to stand up we let her choose...either she can get out of the tub and go straight to bed (we take baths at night) or she can sit down and play with her toys in the tub. She is pretty quick to sit down because playing is much more fun then going to bed. Remember though that if you give her the option of going to bed you need to follow through and put her straight to bed so she knows you are serious.
I am not sure if this will work with an 11 mo old because I have already forgotten how much language they understand at that age but maybe it is worth a try.

K. - I used a blow-up pool for my boys. They make them so small now that it worked very well for us. They also make stoppers for the showers that would allow you to put enought water in it for her and less stress on space.
Hope this helps.
