Sitting in a Shopping Cart

Sorry but I didn't know what category that this would go under.

I am curious about when to put your baby in a shopping cart. My son is now 7 1/2 month old. I have read that it's usually when they can sit up unassisted on their own. Well he can't sit up yet but does well in his Bumbo chair and high chair. Is that the same thing??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I was given one of those shopping cart covers and now whenever we go to the store, he does well (then again since I'm late in writing what happened because now my son is 9 months). Thanks for all the advice!

I put my daughter in the shopping cart once she outgrew the carrier, around 6 months. What I did was prop her up with the diaper bag on one side of her and my purse on the other. She wasn't sitting up, but she did have great head control at that time and just kind of leaned on one of the two bags. The first time, we just cruised around the store, we didn't do any shopping, just incase she didn't like it.

He'd probably be fine in a shopping cart. You can buy something (I don't know what it's called) to sort of support him, or go my cheapo route and just bring some blankies to prop around him so that he doesn't topple over. Just make sure that he doesn't bonk his head on the front of the cart and limit his time in the cart to see how he does.

I used my good ol' Boppy nursing pillow to help my sons when they couldn't quite sit up that long by themselves. It kept him upright and comfortable in the cart. Keep one in the car, there are so many uses for them!

I don't think so. I would wait until he can sit up all by himself. But if want to try you could try to pad it up with blakets so if he tips over he well not hurt himself. I would try when you don't really need anything at the store. YOu know one of those days when you just want to get out of the house. James can sit up in the shopping carts now but he gets really borded. so bought him of some toys that i can attach to the cart and it really helped.

They sell a shopping card seat/pad with a lap belt at target I think it's about 30.00. It was the best gift I recieved at my shower. You will still need a little support on the side. Perhap's a blanket or even a towel, I choose a towel then you just leave them in the car. There are millions of germs in those carts to soooo make sure to clean little hands after getting out. Good luck.

I started putting my daughter in a shopping cart by 6 months old, but she could basically sit up on her own. I bought a shopping cart cover from Babies R US and it has a strap for them. You can always put something on each side of him to keep him from falling side to side.
