Sippy Cup? Depends on What's in It.

@14 months, I am starting to take the sippy cup transition seriously. Nothing drastic, just consistency.

I'm seeing that it really depends on what's in the sippy cup whether or not she will embrace it.

What tricks have you used to transition to sippy cup without too much resistance?

Thanks!

So What Happened?

The Nuby sippy cup works best. It's lightweight and the spout is soft and seems to be easier for her to mimic sucking a bottle nipple. She also likes the straw cups, too. So again, Nuby wins! Thanks all. It's work in progress but so far I've eliminated the morning and afternoon bottle and will soon eliminate the night bottle.

With my first I only put milk in the sippy cup and went straight from bottle to sippy...and it was easy!

With my 2nd child, he wanted nothing to do with the sippy, and I had to trick him...I always use flavored coffee creamer in my coffee and one day I was trying to hand him his sippy of milk and make my coffee and he wouldn't take it, so I asked if he wanted some creamer like mommy and he was all excited! I pretended to pour some in with his milk and he loved it! He totally thought he was getting something special...but he wasn't getting anything but regular milk ;) it was hilarious! It worked for us, but was slightly annoying having to pretend to put creamer in it every time...but it worked!

I was lucky with my 3rd...she loved her sippy from the start, even if it was only water!

All 3 of my kids transitioned to the kind with the straws really easily, they liked the straw!

At 14 months, I would just switch to the sippy and in a few days she will realize that if she don't drink if from the sippy, she won't get it any other way. If she knows how to drink from the sippy then there should not be a problem. She may refuse to use the cup for a day or two, but don't worry she will give in eventually if nothing else is offered.

My 15 month old daughter had a hard time switching too, I didn't think she would ever take the cup. But we found these cups and the spout was soft like the nipple of a bottle...they are wonderful! She took it the first time and wasn't hesitant at all! I got hers from CVS & it was made by 'Pampers' but if you go somewhere like Target they have a really big selection...good luck! : )

I waited until the slightly faster flow of sippycups was more attractive than the slower flow of bottles. The actual "switch" didn't happen until 3ish. I mean... there is NO difference between a sippy and bottle *really* except in our own minds. One's a hard nipple bottle and one is a soft nipple bottle.

I'm not sure how old your daughter is, but we used Nuk sippies at first, they have a softer spout, like the nipple of a bottle. After we got her off of formula, about 13 months, we went straight to sippies. We never gave her anything but formula in bottles, everything else in sippies. Then we went to the gerber hard spouted ones, then the ones with straws.
