I was told i am supposed to introduce a sippy, but at 10 months he still only wants a bottle. He will pick the sippy up and chew on the spout but wont or just dont know how to drink from it. Are there different cups that are better for training/introducing sippy cups to a 10 month old? How do you make it more appealing?

What can I do next?

I hardly used a sippy cup. The only way she ever would use one was with the valve taken out. She got milk from a bottle until she was 3, and learned to use a regular cup (with no lid) by about 14 months at the table with meals. Sippy cups are not a requirement, they didn't exist when I was a kid. If spilling is an issue, the plastic cups with the little spouts in the lids can work.

I took the valve out when I first introduced it to DD. Once she understood that water came out, I put it in and let her figure that out.

You can try different ones... just keep trying. I remember one night I was so tired I put the formula in the sippy cup vs. the bottle, and didn't realize until she drank 1/2 of it, that she was fine with a sippy. Maybe try it when he is really hungry. I actually found the take and toss ones were my kids' favorites!

The first one I used for both my kids was a Munchkin brand one - it has a soft spout similar to the material of a bottle nipple. Then I used the Playtex cups (the trainers with 2 handles first, then moved on to regular ones once they got the hang of that). Both of them chewed on them at first and sometimes just because I think. We started with water. My oldest is now 4 1/2yr old so he drinks from a regular cup or straw cup. My baby is almost 1 and doesn't want to seem to take breastmilk from it very much (he gets a bottle when I'm at work), but does OK with water in it. He's still trying to get the hang of it. Both boys were around 9-10mo when we introduced it. You may have to play around to see what works best, but he will eventually get it - just don't buy a bunch of one brand till you know that will work ;)

Find a sippy cup with his favorite character on it.....try to find one with two handles one on each side....they are easier to hold....put water in it and just keep it around him while he is playing...he will eventually get it. Personally, 10 months is a little too little for a regular cup........a sippy will be a good transition from the bottle...then onto cups with lids/straws..

I would stick w/the bottle for a bit longer.
Then transition to the sippy cup.
Try the one w/the valve and the one w/the straw.
My son had a hard time w/the valve & hole kind but swiftly adapted to the
one w/the straw.
Try them all but I would wait a bit on the transition.

Put water in it. It just takes time. And the one we used had handles and a softer spout. Playtex I think. And I would take the stopper out so it would come out fast.

I had a really hard time with my 3rd when trying to switch her to a sippy cup around 11 months - i tried all of the old sippys i had used with my boys & even tried some that had straws, and what finally worked was the playtex first sipper trainers - we have about 10 of them now lol! they worked awesome, and finally helped get her off the bottle :) :) :)

good luck with your little guy! :)

I just wanted to add that every baby is different and you shouldn't be so set on what a book or someone said a 10-month old should or shouldn't be doing!!! Just be patient and when he's ready he'll let you know!

Same with cups and/or straws!!! My son started drinking out of a straw (at whatever age he was) and shocked the heck out of all of us. I had never even attempted letting him use a straw - he just went for it!!

The only advice I can give is to use the kind with two handles - gives them a little more control!!

Good luck!!

Try the Take 'N Toss sippy cups. You can wash them (don't have to toss them) and they drip, so a baby can figure out that there is liquid in there, unlike those that prevent spills, but they don't pour out like the no-drips do when you remove the valve. I used them with both my kids with great success.

I started with the kind that had a gummy like spout - that was more like the nipple of a bottle. He picked that up pretty quick and then I introduced the regular kind. I never used handles or anything, they learned right away to hold it just like a bottle or a cup.

Skip the sippy altogether and just introduce a cup. Sippy cups are for mom's convenience, not the kid.
