Singular for Asthma?

Does anyone here have their child on a daily dose of Singular to keep asthma at bay? The pediatrician we just saw (son had a cold and asthma flared up) prescribed it, but I am a little scared of the side effects. I am going to wait until I talk to his regular doctor, and I'm doing a little bit of research....

My son is 21 months and typically has bad asthma flare-ups when he gets colds. He is on albuteral inhaler & prednizone (when needed), and Qvar inhaler 2x a day.

What can I do next?

I don't know for a child, but I have asthma and have been taking Singulair for some time with no side effects that I am aware of... and believe me, if it has side effects, I will get them! You could google it and see what the side effects are for kids.

Hi J.
(I love your name .... that's my granddaughters also - it means "gracious/God's grace" Her complete meaning is "God's gracious and victorious gift" - she was a miracle baby! - but I also think all babies are miracles!

There is a better approach than medicine for your baby .... that is nutrition. You and the other moms reading this, want to know about a 20-year old Food Science/Nutritional company, RELIV International, that has wonderful nutritional products and a wonderful one for children - and it's in the form of a shake! yeah - so easy for them to get their required nutritional intake.

You'll want to hear about a little boy I've help here in Roseville with Failure to Thrive & Asperger's Syndrome with this product - amazing story! :o)

Their little bodies have not gotten the nutritional level that they need and therefore their immune systems are not at the proper level and they are prone to get colds, and other issues. You have nothing to lose in trying, there's a 100$ 30-day money back guarantee - Look at my Mom-owned business to see a discount.

I want to share also that it is so important for you Mom's to be aware of these amazing products for yourself - and especially if you're in the child-producing years. You can only give your baby nutritionally what you have ... and we are all 'starving for nutrients in America' and therefore babies haven't received vital nutrients.

I know of hundreds of Mom's who have used Reliv as their prenatal and their pregnancies have been great, as well as recovery AND their babies have been born with stronger immune systems and have gone to the doctors for "well-baby" appointments - not 'sick baby' appointments.

It is VITAL that you supplement today because we are absolutely not able to get the nutritional value from our food --- I have a great article that I can send if you want to read about why we are starving for nutrients.

So - J. - I encourage you to realize you have nothing to lose to get your little one on this nutritional shake and give your little one what his body is needing and lacking. This is totally safe - no caution labels.

Blessings to all you Moms - you're doing great jobs - I'm a grandma and have my health back because of these products and have more years to enjoy my grandchildren!

Wait if you can and talk to his regualr doctor. Always better to get a second opinion anyway. I thought singular was only for adults. Do the research, talk to your doctor and then decide. Can he mix all those med's with the Singular. Good luck.

Hi, I wanted to share a few thoughts with you.

In the medical world.. the premise is 'symptom - medication'. A Asthma and/or Allergies diagnosis is that of symptoms creating havoc on the body, creating stress on the immune system. The reality is that by the time the body developes these 'diagnosis', the body is on toxic body burden overload. Basically, babies today are born with over 200 toxins running through their body in utero.

Please see... www.ewg.org for more info on the umbilical cord study done by the Red Cross.
would encourage you to watch the documentary:

www.sharethecause.com/live..

There is a solution that is completely safe for new born babies and pregnant women. I would be happy to provide further info if you so desire. This toxic body burden is the cause of 98% of all developed health challenges.

If you would like additional info from the experts, there is a conference on January 12, 2009 in Pleasanton , CA , where at a Toxic specialist will be presenting the true issues we are up against. I can forward you the info and a "guest" pass.

I am here to help if you so desire.. L. Medina

J.,
WE have a son that is now 14. He has had asthma since he was four months old. I am surprized you are able to have him on an inhailer this early. We had to wait much longer and haul around all of the equipment with us instead. Our son has taken allergy medicine of some sort since he was four years old. His asthma attacks are few and far between. Right now he takes zyrtek. If we don't keep his allergies under control, his asthma is much worse. You also won't be needing the prednisone so much either. In fact, Ben has only needed steriods once since he has been on allergy meds. Most people don't realize that a lot of us get winter allergies. They think that spring is the only time. The molds in the air from the dampness can really get to you. I hope this was useful for you....I know exactly what you are going thru.

My 6 year old son has been on it for about two years now. We were finally able to take him off other preventative steroids and additional allergy meds. No side effects. Last year we took him off it for a couple months because I thought it might be contributing to behavior problems, but no, it was just him :)We saw a huge reduction in earaches as well.

My son, now 5, has been taking singulair for asthma since he was 1. We have not noticed any side effects. We went from needing the inhaler several times a week, to needing it only a few times a year. Drastic improvement. He gets sick a lot less often than he did before, and when he does, it doesn't immediately settle in his chest like it seemed to before we started on the singulair. The singulair is expensive though, so if you don't have good insurance and will cost you a pretty penny. My niece also took singulair starting at a young age for about 6 years before they were able to take her off of it. We are hoping my son outgrows the asthma, but until that appears to be the case, I am going to continue to give him the singulair. I didn't like giving my son all that albuterol (made him so hyper) and the prednizone, so it was a relief when he didn't need it anymore.

Hi J.,

My daughter (who is 4) has been on a daily dose of Singulair for almost 1 year for asthma (induced by colds). She has not had any side effects. Before the Singulair, she was prescribed just the albuteral inhaler but at the time wasn't taking deep enough breaths so most of the medicine went into the air. We still have the inhlaer for travel but bought a nebulizer for home breathing treatments when she starts to cough/wheeze.

I suffered with asthma myself as a kid and I think they have come a long way with how to keep it under control. I agree with the post about how nutrition plays a part - but meds have their place too. Having an ashtma "action plan" and knowing the signs of an impending attack, knowing the triggers, and then starting proper treament is critical in keeping your child out of the ER. Believe me, we had one scary incident (off the Singulair at the time) and it really opened our eyes at how serious this can be! So, we take EVERY cold seriously and will keep her on the Singulair (although we hope she won't have to be on it forever).

Good luck!!

My son who is 5 has bad allergies and asthma. When he was about a year old his dr. prescribed sigular. The side effects he expierenced were recurrent ear infections which his dr. says is one of the rarer ones. He couldn't be on it for that reason. We knew it was the singular because once he stopped (and after a long 3 months of antibiotics) the ear infections cleared up.

Dear J.,
My Daughter has been on Singular for 2 years now. She would be sick from Oct. to Feb. with one virus after another. She was miserable. Keeping her on Singular has changed all that. She is able to quickly fight off anything that comes along because it doesn't go straingt into asthma. I wouldn't not give it to her. She has been on it since she was 5. Hope that helps.

My son who is now 6 has been on Singular for about a year now and we have not seen any side effects. He has never had a severe asthma attack, but sometimes has wheezing during prolonged respiratory colds. We simply take a pill before bed each night as one possible side effect is drowsiness. Every kid is different so maybe you could just try it for a month. I understand your concern as our doctor has also prescribed several types of inhalers other asthma drugs which I do limit to an as-needed basis since I don't want him "drugged-up" all the time especially when he's never had a severe flare up.

My son who has been on Zyrtec since he was a year old for allergies is now on Singular. He does better on it for his breathing and asthma. But I have notice he can be a little agressive on it. I guess it isn't not a normal resposes to sigular but it seems to make him that way. I'm still talking to the doctor about what to do. On zyertec he is Hyper and he wheezes a lot and has to have breathing treatments. The singlar helps with the breathing but the aggreasive persoanlity and emotionalness that comes with it is driving me crazy!
I'm on sigular and have been for 8 years, it works great. I love it it and havn't seen any side effects. (We live in Indiana Lots of things to help triger our allergies)
