Silicone Nursing Pads

Has anyone used them? Did they work? Did you like them? When I was nursing my first-born, I mostly used washable (reusable) cotton pads during the day and disposables at night. The disposables would always been completely full by the time my newborn woke up (every 3-4 hours) to feed, and often they had slipped (or I had) while sleeping, and so my nursing bra was also soaking wet. Ick. Not only that, but by the time I had to give up nursing, I had gotten SO SICK of wearing a bra constantly, at night, during the day, and rushing to put one on after a shower so that I didn't get milk all over everything. My husband would rub my back over the bra because under was difficult, but the sensation is NOT the same. I hated it!

The saleslady at Motherhood Maternity was telling me about these silicone nursing pads that prevent leaks rather than absorb them, and they stick to your breasts without needing a bra so that they can be worn under swimsuits, etc. However, they're quite pricey, so before buying, I'd love to hear the experiences of mamas who have tried them. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I believe you're talking about Lillypadz. I have yet to use them (didn't need them the first time around), but my SIL used them with 2 kids and LOVED them.
They're not expensive, actually. About $20/pair, and one pair should last you through about 6 months.

They stick to your breasts with adhesive and suppress the nipple, which prevents leakage. When you're ready to take the off, you just wash with soap and water.

I recently bought a pair when we went to Vegas...I was not taking a nursing bra (no baby with me meant that I could actually wear "normal" underwear, lol), and I certainly didn't want to dea with tucking my usual disposables into a regular/cute bra. Anyway, I really liked them. They did exactly what they said they would do. The only time I had a problem was on the flight out there. I nursed my son before leaving the house, but it was nearly 7 hours later before we checked into the hotel and I was able to pump, so I leaked a little. I was able to just tuck a disposable into my bra (between the silicone and the bra) and that held me off until I was able to pump. I used them until they weren't sticky anymore. After the stickiness wore off, they didn't adhere to the breast anymore, so the couldn't form a seal and prevent the leagage. Totally worth the 5 or so weeks that I used them though.

LilyPadz! They are great!!! I loved them. You can put them under a bathing suit and swim with them, you can wear them all night, they are thin and soft. You can get them cheaper on Ebay.

I used the lily brand and loved them! I didn't find them until after I had been nursing for about 3 months and went to a specialty bra shop. Mine lasted for almost 6 months before the sticky started to go. I was able to take my older child to the pool and not have to worry about leaking milk everywhere. They must be cleaned every time and allowed to air dry or you risk infection. I would recommend using them during the day and then at night use the disposable ones. While they seem pricey, it was worth it for the mileage I was able to get out of them and the freedom to get in the pool etc. I am expecting baby #3 and plan on purchasing a new set for this time around.

I loved them and was able to use them for a year! Bought another pair the second time because I liked them so much. You will need two pairs or to wear something else at night. The key is rinsing them every night and leaving them separated to dry. I think motherhood's return policy is pretty inflexible, maybe see about buying them at babies r us or another baby store that will let you return them even if used in case you don't like then. But I loved them!

Hi! While I have not used them personally, I do know they are very popular and many moms really are impressed with how well they work. But I would just mention that you will want to watch for signs of bacterial or yeast infections - warm, wet areas that don't get airflow will be more susceptible to those issues, and some moms have had that happen. It is just something to consider and to watch for and be aware of :) Good luck - and HUGS from one mom who breastfed to another :)
