My reproductive endocrinologist (RE) has never indicated that clomid would have that side effect. I have done 7 clomid cycles and 1 IVF cycle. I am in the process of doing a FET cycle. I know 1 ovary is usually bigger then the other.
My husband and I have been trying for about a year to conceive our 2nd child. We recently received great news and are expecting, after one month of using clomid. Last week I went for my first ultrasound, baby is doing great, but the tech informed me one of my ovaries is enlarged. She did indicate it was normal after being on fertility drugs. My next doctor appnt isn't until next week, but wanted to know if anyone has experienced this and if there is any treatment, or does it shrink? Thanks!

I also took clomid for my second child. One month and I was pregnant! I never had the enlarged ovary but i know it is very common because of the hormones. I do not know when or if it will go down. Congrats!!
I was TTC for 18mo using FAM. At my first u/s I had an ovarian cyst. It went away as the pregnancy progressed. Congrats and good luck!
B., I used Clomid for 2 1/2 yrs on and off. I don't recall enlarged ovaries, but I know it can happen which is a side effect of the drug. If you would like to chat with others who probably have been through it or are currently experiencing it, I would recommend a wonderful website. www.fertilethoughts.com
I have utilized this site for the last 4 yrs and I LOVE it. Women who are experiencing the same things are on there so it's great. I HIGHLY recommend it! Congrats on your pregnancy!!!
B.,
I used clomid for 3 months before getting pregnant with my daughter, but I never had any complications like you're talking about. Sorry I can't be much help, but I just wanted to put my 2 cents in that I believe clomid is a very safe fetility drug.

Hi B.
Dont worry it is completely normal. I used clomid for 6 rounds and 4 out of the 6 rounds I also had enlarged ovaries. It should just go away by itself. I never had to take medication for it. Just relax and enjoy your pregnancy!!
It shouldn't be a problem. I was on Clomid for about 5 cycles before conceiving. On one cycle, I had the same problem occur. Basically, the doctor had me take a cycle off from Clomid before returning to it. This gave the ovary time to return to normal.
Rather than "enlarged", my doctor called it "over-stimulated." When you stop taking clomid, it is no longer being stimulated more than usual, so it goes away on its own. Since you've conceived (Congratulations!!), this should resolve itself over the next month. However, I would be sure to ask your doctor about it at your next visit if he/she doesn't bring it up, just to be sure.
I have a friend who was on fertility meds and had the same problem. Her ovary did return to a normal size with time. Congratulations on baby #2.
I don't have any advice for the use of the fertility drugs but I wanted to let you know that I am also new to the area and just moved here from Michigan in Feb of this year. Hope everything works out with the new baby.
I realize this was started way back in '06 - but I just wanted to tell others that the enlarged ovary is very normal when being on clomid... I had to skip a month of treatment b/c one of mine was so enlarged - but the next month - it shrank and was back to normal... We haven't "really tried" in about a year but we are about to start up the process again and I'm sure my doctor will try the clomid again... YEAH - bring on the hot flashes and mood swings... (just kidding) - but some of us will do anything for that sweet little baby - right??
I used clomid to get pergnant with my first child. Everything I was able to find on the drug is they do shrink. My guess would be it is a cyst. If it is most cyst will go away on there own. If not they may have to do surgury. I would just wait till your next doctor appointment and talk to the doctor and see if it is still enlarged or if it has gone down. If it is still enlarged she what the doctor would like to do.
I also took fertility treatments, but I was on hormone injections which are more powerful than clomid. My ovaries were the size of grapefruits for the entire first trimester of the pregnancy. It was extremely uncomfortable, but they went back to normal by the 2nd trimester. This is very normal so don't worry :) Good luck with your pregnancy!!
