Side Effects of Progesterone Only Pills

Hey moms...I hope you can give me some advice on this. I just started taking Progesterone Only Pill because I am still breastfeeding my 9 month old daughter. I have been taking the pill for over a week and now I have been bleeding for 3 days like I have my period again. I just got over my "real" period about a week and a half ago. I know break through bleeding is one of the side effects. However, will it keep going like this the whole month? Will next month be better? I don't want to have bleeding all month long. Any advise or anyone else with experience with this? BTW the pill is called Nora BE if you need to know that.

Hi Y.,

Contact your Doctor. Why are you taking the pill?

Good luck. D.

I know I had a lot of break through bleeding when I first went on the Depo Provera shot. The doctor said I was getting too much progesterone with it and had me take a small dose of estrogen for a couple weeks to a month - it cleared it up entirely. Maybe this is what is happening for you also.

I was on a progesterone only pill for a while because my gyn thought it was a good choice because I have high blood pressure. I tried it out for about 7 months and bled just about the entire time I was on it. It was like continuously having my period. Then, I got pregnant on it. I was very faithful in taking it too. After having my son they did say it was the only pill I could go back on since I was breastfeeding. I decided to skip the pill altogether and go for the over-the-counter type contraceptives. No side effects there!

Congrats on doing the birthing and the 1st year by yourself! That's the toughest part!

So i thought it was only me. My daughter will be 3 months Sat. I got the pill not to long ago. I had my period and after I started the pill it came on again two weeks later. the next month i didn't have a period but i had little spotting then a week later i guess you can say i got my period. It was very light (so light i could use a panty liner). it looks like it my be transitioning out. I hope that gives you a lil hope.

Also i know how it is to have a hubby/fiance deployed when your kids are young so if you ever need someone to talk to feel free to message me.

The same annoying thing happened to me. After two months, I finally just decided to hold off on taking the pill until I finished nursing. You have enough to worry about without all of that breakthrough bleeding! Blessings to you and your husband!

I'm having the same problem with the same exact pill. And the part that is really bothering me is that I don't remember this happening the last time I took progesterone only pills. I'm wondering if it might have something to do with the brand because I didn't get a period for at least 5 months after my first kid and I started on the pills right after my 6 week check up. Same thing this time, but started bleeding two days after I started the pills. I think I might just stop taking the pill and go back to other means of contraception. It's not worth it if this is going to be happening.

Since you just started this pill chances are your body is just adjusting to it, but it's worth calling your doctor to get her/his advice and a lengthier explanation of what to expect. The pill's manufacturer may also have a web site with some helpful info. I took a similar pill after my second daughter , but ultimately stopped taking it b/c of the side effects.
