My daughter had this stomach flu forever. She first got sick after Thanksgiving with vomiting for 1 day and then she had diarrhea for 3 weeks. Christmas night she started getting sick again and was vomiting every 30 minutes for about 2 days. I took her to the doctor and he said to keep giving her either Gatorade or that Propel fitness water because my daughter will not drink Pedialyte. He also said that popsicles help with the dehydration. My daughter was running a fever the second time she had this but could not keep Tylenol or Motrin down. She is finally better but she dealt with this for over a month. It seems like there is just a really bad stomach virus going around this year.

If your daughter is vomiting and has a fever at the same time, you are supposed to page your doctor. Dehydration can happen quickly! And a fever does not accompany the stomach flu, so it could be something else that is causing this. I hope your daughter gets better soon. Please let us know how she is doing.

M.,

Try rotating Motrin and Tylenol every 4 hours they say that that is the best way to break that fever and maybe that's whats causing her vomiting.

Hi M., until she sees the doctor, please make sure you give her pedialite to make sure she doesn't dehydrate. Even when she's better, it never hurts to have it on hand.
Good luck, I hope your daughter feels better!

my daughter had an unexplained vomiting episode that put her in the hospital. it was due to a urinary tract infection. the e.r. nurses told me that vomiting was a very common symptom of a u.t.i.

Ginger & peppermint both help settle the stomach. Catnip helps break a fever. If you want natural, this works. I'd suggest buying THE ENCYCLOPEDIA FOR NATURAL HEALTH & HEALING For CHILDREN by Weber and a copy of NATURALLY HEALTHY BABIES & CHILDREN by Romm

FYI....there are WWWWWWWAAAAYYY less side effects from herbs (plants) than there are many meds. You just have to know how to administer and in what doses. These books will give you guidance here.

My youngest is 27 months and just went through having this "stomach virus" thing - it actually got her twice. The first time wasn't so bad - she only threw up once or twice and had just a little diarrhea. The second time really whopped her.

We took her to the doctor about it because we were worried about dehydration and all. They told us as long as she was willing to drink and eat, then those were good signs. They said to make sure when she cried that she had tears, and there was saliva in her mouth, and to monitor the diapers. They also said to stay away from dairy products because it was so hard to digest.

They also suggested getting pedialyte and or letting her have watered down gatorade. She was willing to drink water, and would periodically want goldfish crackers and/or saltines, but we didn't really push it much because anytime she would have something, she'd vomit.

She vomited a lot the first few days, and then maybe once or twice a day for about another 5 days - and then starting Friday, she started acting like her normal self and wanted to eat anything in sight! She had 5 chicken nuggets (and usually 3-4 is good for her).

(I actually had this virus. The Monday it "started", my tummy felt a little crummy, but Tuesday morning I woke up knowing that at some point I would be vomiting, it wasn't a question of "if" but "when". That was Tuesday and Wednesday. My other daughter woke up with it Thursday. While I only vomited really on Tuesday and Wednesday, my stomach felt crummy/queazy for another week or so after that. AND I needed lots of Pepcid when I did start eating more than just crackers and/or chicken noodle soup.)

Make sure you have some Mylicon on hand, and the tylenol and motrin will help with the fever and/or aches from having vomitted so much.

Just hoping that knowing what we went through might help you...good luck!! Hope your little one gets better soon!!

Hi, M.! I wanted to share my story with you. When my son was almost 4, he had this flu thing with the vomiting and diarrhea, which lasted for almost a week. Of course, I called the doctor, and they kept telling me to plop him in front of the TV and push fluids (popsicles, gatorade, pedialite, all that stuff)... so I did. As the week progressed, he wasn't getting any better. He hadn't napped in a year, but all of a sudden, he was napping for 2-3 hours each day. He was very lethargic, and of course, had no appetite. I called the doctor three times, and three times they told me push fluids. One night he wanted me to CARRY him to the bathroom. He sat down to pee (which he normally stood up to do), and his urine was white. Major dehydration. I immediately took him to the ER. They drew blood on him, and ended up life flighting him out to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland. His potassium was 2.2, and at 2.0, his heart was at high risk of stopping. If your daughter is just 22 months, be very careful. It won't take long to mess up her electrolytes, because she's so small. I would give her Ensure if she can keep it down. I would also take her to another doctor. Don't let what happened to us happen to you. It's scary!! Fortunately, he was just fine after a day in the hospital, but believe me, it's amazing how fast a little body will start to fall apart! I wish you the best of luck, and get better real soon!

We went to the ER when my son was 21 months old b/c he had been vomiting and had diarrhea for a week and it looked to me that he started to get de-hydrated. One of the doctors actually gave us a good tip. She said that some kids start feeling better when they get a little bit of something sweet in their tummy (my son usually does not drink juice b/c he doesn't want to). She said to try it out next time and we did. It really helped him to feel better. We did juice. As far as the fever goes, when my son didn't keep the Tylenol down, I let him run around in his diaper and gave him a lukewarm/cool bath and that helped a lot. The ER doctor told me that kids can go a long time without eating but it's always the fluid that they are worried about. One of the things that my son does not like is those saltine crackers. He actually eats off-brand wheat Ritz crackers when his tummy is upset and they seem to help him better than the saltines. Also, no dairy b/c it is too heavy on the stomach but we do rice milk so he still gets vitamins in. I hope your daughter will feel much better soon.

hi M., i would start giving your daughter a probiotic everyday. it will drastically lessen her chances of getting this illness again. it's good bacteria which will coat her digestive tract. you can purchase the "culturelle" brand at your local drustore or they make a specific one for babies and children which you can buy from a health foods store. if she doesn't have a high fever then i would stop giving her medicine to bring it down and just let it run its course or give her warm baths. if she still has an upset tummy i'm sure the tylenol isn't help any. offer her little bits of crackers or toast an ice cube or you can buy her an all fruit popsicle which really helped me when i was recovering from a stomach bug. and she will probably enjoy the popsicle the most. good luck. i hope she is feeling better soon!
