Showering After Chlorine

We now live where we can swim in a pool everyday. What I need to know is how often to do you make your child take a shower after swimming? They aren't "dirty" because the pool washes off all the dirt and sweat, but I also know that chlorine isn't particularly good for your skin or hair. Also, is a good rinsing good enough or is soap the only way to get the chlorine off?

What can I do next?

Always shower with soap and water after swimming, shampoo and condition hair. The chemicals in the pool water dry out the skin and hair.

I always shower after being out all day and wearing sunscreen too. I just feel sticky and uckky after a day out from the sunscreen.

Always shower with soap and wash the hair to get out the chlorine. It's so bad for your skin and I itch like crazy when I don't take a shower within an hour after leaving the pool.

a rinse off at the end of the day should be fine assuming they don't have senstive skin. If their sking is more sensitive then you have to rinse off more often. There have been plenty of times, however, when my kids went to bed never having rinsed off - but my husband doesn't use a lot of chlorine - we have some other kind of filter that doesn't require alot. You'll see if their skin reacts or gets super dry. There are some skin conditions tha actually seem to do better with lots of chlorine. As someone who has eczema and also athletes foot from time to time they are both much better when I'm in the pool a lot.

I have found with my kids putting conditioner in their hair before they swim means just a rinse off after. I don't know about the rest of the world but my kids are always tired and crabby after swimming so the less work after the better. :)

Always rinse after a swim, especially in public pool.
You will want to invest in some moisturizers, too--whether it be in the shower or out. Lastly, there are rinses for hair that get chlorine chemicals out of your child's hair. You don't have to use those all the time, but maybe once a week or every other, just to get it clean. As a kid, i rinsed after a swim, sometimes washed depending on how dry my skin felt, and I rarely washed my hair....it was so baby fine that the chemicals and letting it air dry actually "thickened" it up. But I know it's awful on hair. The hair can wait until the evening shower, and possibly the body, but I wouldsay to at the very least rinse, head to toe, and if you have the time, take a handful of body wash and maybe let it suds up, run it over- to get the main stays off. But if the kids don't wash up after, don't let them go to bed without a good shower and wash down.
Hope that helps! Have loads of fun swimming!

Well you sweat when you swim you just don't notice because you are already wet. If it is a public pool I would make them rinse off after getting out, if you are at home I wouldn't worry about it. I would however make them shower every day. Ultra Swim is a great shampoo for kids/adults who spend hours in the pool. The Ultra Swim will also help keep their hair from getting green if they have light colored hair. As far as their skin I would just put lotion on after they take a shower.

My kids shower after every bout in the pool. Shampoo and condition hair, especially.
Also, if you have a daughter with long locks (as I do) it is helpful to WET her hair before she goes for a swim. When they get into the pool with their hair dry, the strands really soak up the chlorinated water and tends to dry it out and cause more damage. If it is already wet with regular tap water (or if you prefer to apply a spray in conditioner or something) it won't soak up the moisture (along with the chlorine)...

I make my kids rinse at the pool and then they have to take showers later. It depends on what we are doing that day. If they will be riding their bikes after swimming, I have them shower after. Some people do have reactions to the chlorine so it is really your call but definitely at the least a good rinse off after being in the pool.

I was interested in the answers you would get too! With a 5yr old and a 2yr old even though I could take them swimming every day I don't! It's too much work! If I didn't have to bathe them after each swim it would be easier but I definitely feel better giving them a bath and washing all the sunscreen and chlorine off every time. Sometimes after we swim in an indoor pool I haven't bathed them and their skin does fine but I really do feel better to bathe them (and myself too!) after. Use a good moisturizer after the shower!

We use Arbonne's Sea Source Detoxifying Rescue Wash it helps neutralize the toxicity of heavyt metals and lifts away inpurities and environmental toxins and also provides a moisture barrier on the skin. All of Arbonne's products are made with all natural herbs and botanicals. We also make sure we use one of the Sunscreens from Arbonne. They should at least rinse off when they get out but at the end of the swim time they should wash their hair and body really well.

We always shower off after swimming (whether we swam in a pool, river or ocean).
We use a moisturizing soap so it's not drying to the skin.

My friend takes her kids just about every day and they don't shower due to "being clean". After a day or two they are stinky and their hair is greasy looking. I think that people use suntan oil and then swim with it on and of course there are the body oils and dead skin cells that come off during the swimming too.

It just builds up and up on the hair and skin until it is just slimy gross. Bathe them at least every other day.
