I hate to scrub the showers and tubs. But soon I'll have a brand new house and appliances and want to keep it clean from the start. Wondering what you mamas use - what works best/easiest? Does that ScrubNBubbles automatic shower spray work? We will have well water and it leaves a lot of residue.

Thanks a bunch!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all y'all's help. I will take this list to the grocery store, and try one product at a time that you suggested. I can use it on this rental home now to figure out which I like best before I move into my new home. I will NOT buy the Scrub N Bubbles automatic stuff, since it's so pricey and eats batteries.

There's a cleaner called 'No Work Daily Shower Cleaner' and you spray it on the shower walls after a shower, when there is still water on the walls. There is no need to wipe or squeegee and it keeps the shower scum free. I’ve tried to squeegee after showers and it only lasts about a week at my house!

I have hard water & have well water. weekly I throw a cup of vinegar into the washing machine & it helps clean the tub & lines. I put in a cup of vinegar every 4-5 load in the dishwasher for same. I keep plumbing lines clear & clean by mixing baking soda, vinegar, & hydrogen peroxide in each sink & tub. it bubbles fizzes & really cleans up soap grime. for clogged shower heads, I soak head in glass with lemon juice for about an hour. It cleans it right up. For shower, best bet is to squeege after each use hands down, unfortunately, I'm the only one doing it, & so I hard water spots are taking there toll. I spray shower with lemon juice & let sit for 30 minutes then rinse & squeege weekly. No scrubbing. For shower doors, about monthly, I wall paper doors with cheap toilet paper & spray with lemon juice. let this sit 30-1hr & them scoop moist paper off doors throw & rinse & squeege, then wipe doors down with WD40. Once you get it down, it takes about 5 minutes to do. I save a fortune on cleaners, lemon juice $1.00, peroxide, $1.00 vinegar $1.25, baking soda $1.50 & this lasts for months! Hope it helps. congrats on new house!

I hate the scrubbing too! But most of all the toxin chemicals...the smell would give me headaches, I had to wear gloves, had to open windows and make sure my children weren't close by, and my face would break out (I have rosacea). My favorite cleansers to use is Tub n Tile and Tough & Tender. No more scrubbing, headaches, break outs and my 3 year old helps me clean!

I try not to use any really harsh chemical cleaners. I like Clorox Green products and Method products.

The Scrubbing Bubbles cleaner works, however, that thing EATS batteries. It takes like four double A's. I found that I was replacing those batteries every four or five weeks.......not worth it to me!!!! I finally just chunked it!!!!

P.S. The soulution that you put in the machine isnt cheap either.....that, too, doesnt last that long.

If you will be on well water I would strongly recommend installing a water softener. It will not only save your appliances and water pipes in the house but it will cut down on the amount of shampoo, laundry detergent and cleaning products you will be using. Hard water damages pipes and faucets. Good luck with the new house.

The ScrubNBubbles does work, however not for long! We've had 2 and they both quick working after a few months. I gave up eventually. Now I use a natural shower spray and it keeps it cleaner longer.

I used this product for years. I purchased Scrub N Bubbles heavy duty ..read the directions..sprayed my lovely clean, unstained tub, and the cleaner ate through the finish!!..it looks dark gray/backish....notified the company and as concerned as they were..they sent me coupons!!!!! They had forms for me to fill out..needs two estimates and then would be compensated mius the years old..DON't USE IT..I changed from using any of their products. C.

Get a squeegee and hang it in the shower. Squeegee the shower glass EVERY time you use it. I also use Method Shower Spray after I squeegee. We keep a soft chamois to dry any extra drops missed by wiping- but I admit I am not as diligent about using that. The trick is to squeegee (i.e. dry off) the shower every time it is used- even skipping once or twice will cause a build up. The Method spray also helps but even with all of this work our 7 year old shower has SOME build up. (I think maybe someone else has not been as consistent as I have!) Good luck. Enjoy the new home.

you may want to check into a water softener. Keeps build up from occuring in a brand new house, big investment at the start but pays for itself over time.

Hi Jessica, We squeegee the tub area and shower each time they are used. But for cleaning, I use Seventh Generation products almost exclusively. They have a Tub and Tile Cleaner that is wonderful and is safer to use than many products. It won't asphyxiate you or your children.

HEB carries the Seventh Generation products. Or you can order them from a catalog called Gaiam (www.Gaiam.com).

I love the response with all the natural stuff. I will have to try those. I have found that if you stop using an bar soaps it helps alot. Most bar soaps have Talc in them and that causes a lot of the mess that you see. We have switched from any bar soaps and our shower is doing so much better. That is the best way that I have found to keep it clean with out me having to do much any real work.
