Go to the doctor, please!! Bladder infections can be very serious when you are pregnant. I'd just go to the urgent care center instead of the ER. Much faster. Take care....
I am 14 weeks pregnant and strongly believe that I have a bladder infection. I read online that I should see my doctor...but it never tells you how serious things are for if you are stuck in the middle of a weekend. Can it wait until Monday or should I head myself to the hospital or one of those urgent care places?
Thanks! I ended up calling the answering service later in the day on Sunday because I was begining to feel worse. My doctor called in a prescription for me and I'm doing better. Thanks again!

Go to the urgent care. A bladder infection can trigger contractions and at this early stage of pregnancy it is possible to lose the baby if contractions do start.
Go ASAP! It can cause you to go into labor early.
Hi J.,
You should go to the urgent care or the minute clinic (you can find a location near your house at www.minuteclinic.com) since untreated urinary tract infection may cause preterm labor. So you really don't want to wait too long to get it treated.

I have had several with both of my children when I was pregnant. And I was always told that even if I thought I had one, I was to report to the ER or urgent care as soon as possible. If I was you I would go in.
J., as a nurse, I say you should call first thing this morning for a same day appt. Be sure to let the triage nurse know your situation so they can get you in today. It's not necessarily an "emergency" situation, but if you let it go very long, you risk further infection and pain. Get some cranberry juice, not cocktail, I know, old wives tale...but drink it and lots of water, no caffeinated fluids and try to get in as soon as possible to an appt. Congratulations on the baby! And best of luck!
Go- A bladder infection can cause pre-term contractions. I know first-hand.
It all depends on your comfort and symptoms. If you have to go every few minutes then I would suggest you go to the store and get some Azo. It helps to relieve the spasms. If you are having pain in your lower back near your kidneys, it may have traveled up and started a kidney infection, which should be treated right away. There are many over the counter herbal remedies that can help too. They can also keep your UTI in check until Monday when you can see a dr. If there is a lot of pain or a fever, you need to be see at the hospital. But if it is a regular and fairly new infection, than you can usually keep it in check until Monday. Good luck! A.
If you go to the urgent care clinic, they will probably put you on an antibiotic. However, this may not be the best for you or your baby. Drink lots of water as this will help flush the bacteria. Also, there is an over the counter medicine called AZO which relieves the burning and pain. It turns your urine red, so you might want to wear a pad so it doesn't stain your undies. I have been fighting bladder infections most of my life and recently stopped with the antibiotics because of candida. If you opt for the antibiotics, then be ready for the yeast infection which will follow. Plus if you eat a lot of sugar you are more prone to bladder infections. But in the end, it's your decision on how bad you feel. Hope you get better soon.
If it were me, i would just drink a lot of water and cranberry juice, and make a regular appt. i would tell them what was going on when i made it, though. But that is just my opinion, because I am so prone to them, they are like second nature to me. good luck and congrats!

The weekend is over but I would like to suggest to you that you always call the doctor when you are in doubt of what to do, even on the weekend. The doctor has a service that will connect you with someone who can tell you what is best to do. You will not be charged for the call. You will have peace of mind.
Cranberry juice is actually not a wives' tale, but a scientifically proven cure! It attaches to the same receptors as the bacteria, blocking it so you can evacuate it. For most common UTI's, you will not even need atibiotics. Just drink TONS of cranberry juice and water (think 2-3 gallons total in one day), and the simptoms should disappear within 24 hours; keep drinking almost as much for the next 2 days to ensure all the bacteria are gone. If, after only 8 hours of loading up like this there is no improvement then it is more resistant & will probably require antibiotics & you will need to see your doctor. Call this morning & ask him/her about this treatment; it is one they don't tout much because it removes the need for medical advice, but if you ask they will tell you. Hope you start feeling better!
Well since it's Monday you should be able to get a same day appointment. It's not necessarily an emergency unless you're in a lot of pain. If you do have an infection and don't take care of it, it could back up into your kidneys and damage them. So if you're still experiencing discomfort this morning go get it checked out.
i hope you've takien yourself to the hospital these things can be very very serious because they can send you into early labor and at 14 weeks that would be disasterous. please go to the hospital now if you havent, the antibiotics won't be worse than early labor!Drink lots of cran juice (not a wives tale and yes it is sientifically proven) its not a cure, but will prevent future infections.Hope you feel better soon.
