Should I Get a Juicer?

My husband has become obsessed with getting a juicer but before we take the plunge and buy one (he's eyeing one that's around $200), I want to make sure we'll actually use the darn thing. Do you have a juicer and if so, how often do you use it? Is it worth it??

What can I do next?

If you want to save some money, don't buy it in a regular store - search for the good deal online or use discounter sites like Groupon or Overstock etc.

I didn't read the other responses but here is my opinion. I got the Jack Lalanne juicer and I loved it at first, I loved the idea of it more I think. The juice was good but you had to buy a lot of fruit and veggies to make a lot. Which was okay for a while but the clean up was time consuming to me, you had to take it apart and clean all the pieces. I ended of not using it just because of the hassle of cleaning the thing. I gave it to my dad who really wanted to juice, and he hardly uses it either. But what I did get and use all the time is a Vita Mix blender, I know they are very pricey but I make juice and smoothies and even Soup ALL the time! Love it! And the clean up is so much easier, just like a blender.

I just bought a blender at costco because I wanted to make green smoothies. Juicers seem to have a lot of waste. With the blender I'm having all the juice plus . I use apples pears spiniach lettuce and other fruit for variety. Would he not like the texture? I buy all organic and the smoothies are really tasty. I got the idea from a mamapedia mom . There is a blog she recommended by kimberly Snyder.net . Personally I'd find a juicier limiting and short lived . You could buy an awesome blender/food processor for $200 and make a lot more with it.

NOOO! My hubby purchased a juicer for me and it is just sitting there. The juicer will leave the most important parts of the fruit & veggie out for you to clean up. I just purchased the NInja Kitchen Pro System 1100 & I love it.

You can do so much more with this blender, for example make, salsa, dough, cookie or a smoothie. Check it out.

I'm with Eagles in Our Home....
I received the NInja Kitchen Pro System 1100 for Xmas from my honey and I love it...it has a large and small blending cup for doing shakes for one or margaritas for several....The Ninja allows you to blend the whole vegetable with little mess, unless you need to take the skin off a Kiwi or something....Love Love it.

I have one that I love but rarely use because I hate cleaning it. (I'm a person who likes for my stuff to stay out and ready to use, not packed up. If I have to move it, then I'll likely not use it.)

Get a Vitamix. It is sublime! And not only does it make wonderful juices and smoothies, it makes terrific soup! Hot and steamy and wonderful! Find out from your local Costco when they come for a show, and you'll get at least $100 off.

I got one when i was preggers b/c I had such a hard time chewing fruit and veggies.

They are a pain to clean... a big pain.... and you have to be REALLY good about buying all organic b/c the pesticides, etc. (apparently from what I read... could be wrong here) get juiced in and can get into your system faster.

If you do get it the drink I liked the most was 1 carrot 1 beet 1 green apple. You'll need to remove the apple seeds though b/c they naturally have arsenic in them.

We got a juicer (thought not one that expensive and that may make a big difference) and my husband hated it. It is sitting downstairs on a shelf and we got a really good blender and he now uses and loves it. Plus it serves more than one purpose.

I received a juicer for Christmas (Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite 1000-Watt Juice Extractor) and I absolutely love it! While I admit getting the fruit and vegetables prepped in the morning can take some time, the juice is so good and fresh (and healthy for you!) it totally makes it worth it. The juicer I got apparently runs for almost $400 (which is super expensive!) but you can get refurbished ones on Amazon (they are same exact juicers but with some minor blemishes, etc) for less than half the cost. I have been using my juicer practically everyday and I am very very happy with it.

I love my juicer. My husband and I use it often, at least a few times a week, but it is a lot of clean up. We borrowed a friend's juicer for a couple weeks to try it out before we purchased. I am glad we did because we entered into the purchase with realistic expectations.

Had one years ago; used it the first month we had it. After that we used it occasionally and we finally sold it at a garage sale. Use your blender and a strainer :)

The juicer was my husband's whim. He bought an expensive one too. It does soft fruit and hard vegetables. If you ask me, I'd rather just eat the fruit or veg. I think its a bit of a man thing to want to get 3 carrots, a beet, 2 celery and a bit of kale into a glass.

If you are in the habit of drinking those "naked juice" juices from Starbucks at $4+ each, you might break even. Otherwise, between the cost of the machine, and the cost of the fruit/veg, you will need to use it quite a lot get ahead monetarily.

I'd spend my money on a nice blender (like Vitamix) and make smoothies rather than a juicer. You'd be using a ton more of the food you would use to juice which means less waste and it is more versatile to use for other things as well.
Juicers leave a lot of waste after and like other said, you have to use a lot fruits and veggies to make the juice.

Hello Sally, I bought one and looked for one with the best consumer ratings. I bought it because I do not eat whole fruits at all! I cant stand the texture plus I was diagnosed with severe hypertension. So on top of juicing I had to revamp my entire way of eating. I use mine every other day and I love it! Clean up is fairly easy but you have to clean it right after your done using it or the pulp will dry making it harder to clean. FYI. Enjoy your juice.

My best friend has one. She is sorry she spent $300 on hers because she uses it daily almost 3 times a day or more. She's a veggetarian and is moving toward become vegan. She is now longing to get a $500 one which is the top of the line model. She wishes she would have just bit the bullet and gotten the $500 one instead from the start.

She is considering selling the one she has so that she will end up only spending another $300 for what she calls a proper juicer.

We have a juicer (also my husband's whim). We used it every day for about a month, then it just got annoying to clean. The parts take up a lot of space in the dishwasher. Also -- it takes A LOT of fruit to get a glass of juice from a juicer. It gets expensive. Also you don't get the fiber from the produce because I think that's in the pulp, which gets filtered out.

I took my juicer back and got a blender similar to, but less expensive, than a vitimix. As Rina V. said, you have so much waste to throw away and you lose the fiber and other nutrients. The juicer was also a royal pain to clean.
I use my blender up to 3 times per day. Besides my morning green protein, I can make soups and sauces in it. It also pulverizes seeds so all you have to do is wash the fruits and veggies before you throw them in. And so easy to clean.

I use mine religiously for about a month cleanse and then dont use it for about two months after and then repeat. It's really easy to use but sort of a pain to clean it out. best juice you will ever have though!

A juicer is on my list this year! (after sending the things to my mom, lol).
Perhpas I am lying to my self that we would eat more veggies, but I would love for those days that I don't want to figure it out how to make a yumy dish also a healthy one (read sweet and sour meatballs) I would love to just make my yomy dish and a juice of veggies and fruit and boila!
Problems solved!
My husband and kids complain about this sometimes, "do all recipies HAVE to have veggies?!" So I could finally say, "nope, here is your drink of fruit (with hidden veggies, mwahaha)"

Like many others, mine was a whim of hubby, and like many others here we used it a lot at first. But the reality is it's really messy, and even though we'll drink carrot or tomato juice, we really didn't enjoy it enough for the hassle. It's in the cupboard with the bread machine and the food dehydrator. If he gets on a diet kick, we may pull it out once in a blue moon....

Watch "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead." It's a great documentary about the benefits of juicing! Maybe it will inspire you?
