Should I Be Concerned - Desoto,TX

About 10 yr ago I had pre-cancerous cells and they had to be frozen twice. Since then I have not had any problems. My ob gyn just told me that we should not do another pap until 2 yrs. I think that is a little too long to wait. Should I switch dr. or just go w/ what he suggests?

What can I do next?

I would insist on every year.. I have abnormal cells on occasion and they have always told me yearly, granted I have not had a 10 year span with normal cells but if I did I will still not chance it.

I would just ask for the yearly and if he refuses then I would switch, it is your health not his.

I think that your dr. is going by new guidelines, but if I remember right, they are only for those who have had no problems. Tell your doctor you are not comfortable with waiting. If he doesn't agree, then go to another doctor who will listen.

I would not listen to him. I think its bad advice. Are you a mom ..even if your not you want to take every precaution that your still here in another ten years. I will keep you in my prayers. Get another doctor. Go tomorrow. Take care

no, you need one every year. I would either insist or find a new doctor.

I agree with the majority of moms below. If you have any history of abnormal paps I would insist on yearly paps. My OB (whom I LOVE) informed me of the change in guidelines and then immediately said that she did not agree with them. If you have had them in the past you can always get them in the future – much better to be SAFE than sorry

Good luck!!

Yearly PAPs, absolutely. Better safe than sorry. Doesn't matter if it's been years. My doctor's philosophy on the new 2 year guideline is this: If you have ONLY ever had one partner, If your partner has ONLY had one partner, If you have ZERO history of cancer in the family history, and if you have NEVER had an abnormal pap, then by all means skip a year. How many of us fit all of those criteria I wonder?

If it were me, I'd explain your anxiousness and see if this doctor will take you every year. I don't understand why he wouldn't, I mean, he is getting paid for it, so why turn away the business? If he's against doing the yearly, I would find another doctor. A pap is done every single year and if you've had pre-cancerous cells in the past, that is even more reason to get checked yearly.

If waiting an extra year will leave you feeling anxious, then do ask to be tested sooner. Why suffer for a year? But abnormal cells can and do become history. I had couple of rounds of pre-cancerous paps quite a few years ago, treated them by naturopathic means, and they have never recurred. Good luck!

They did recently change the guidelines for women to get a pap every 2 years after age 30. I'm not sure if this is for anyone that has had pre-cancerous cells or not, but 10 years is a long time to have normal paps so maybe it is not something to worry about. You should do some research on the internet, and if you're worried about it just insist on getting a pap, I can't really see them refusing to, it only takes like 5 seconds.
