I think all of my sons and husbands shorts are above the knee. If they are below the knee aren't they capri pants, not shorts?
Would you buy you son or husband shorts above the knee?

Aren't all shorts, by definition, above the knee? My husband and son wear shorts a couple of inches above the knee, and quite a bit shorter for running. They wear khaki or cargo shorts anywhere from 1 to 3 inches above the knee on average.
the KNEE?????
heavens!
who would show a KNEE????
that is shocking. and immoral.
i might lose my equanimity and turn into a raging sex fiend if i saw a man's knee.
thank heavens most american males just wear nice capri pants and don't expose us to their knees.

why not? My son and husband usually wear them at knee length. My son will sometimes wear shorts from last year that still fit him in the waist but are just a little shorter than before. I don't see the problem
Both my sons and my husband all have shorts that go above the knee at various lengths.
My DH buys his own shorts. They are usually knee length or slightly above. Too long makes him look stupid. There is a point at which he might just as well buy a dang pair of pants.
As long as they aren't wearing them below their butts, what's the problem?
My husband wears them, the REI kind, but he has about the best legs on the planet.
Btw, he buys his own shorts.
Yes...but unless your son is a tiny boy, why can't he and dad buy their own clothing or go with you?
If I did buy them shorts above the knee, they wouldn't wear them!
I don't have a son and my husband buys his own shorts.
Hubby is a golfer and most of his shorts are the style that golfer's wear which hit around the knee. He buys his shorts at the pro shop and PGA store.
That said, I haven't seen many boys or men with shorts above the knee (say 3" plus) in a long time. Styles change and short shorts for men is just not the "in" thing..
I don't think it has anything to do with a knee showing, lol.
hubs buys his own but yes both of them show a little knee, as long as it's past fingertip length I think i'm ok with it. Ds is only 10 though.
Makes me think of my fil who only ever wears jeans, and my dad who wears cut off shorts w black sneakers and white socks.
and I think i'd rather see knee than gangsta undies or plumber butt crack
Slightly above the knee, yes (especially since hubby is short and below the knees is just too long).
Well if they aren't above the knee then they're not shorts, they're pants, or capris.
The question is whether or not they would wear them...why don't you ask or buy a pair, have them try them on and if they hate them, return them if tags are on and unworn.
I'm intrigued by your question and why you ask it?
My husband buys his own clothes. If it's shorts, it's the Carhartts and usually the longer-length short (not the shorter ones). They fit him likely right around the knee as he's 6' tall with long legs. He wears slightly shorter athletic shorts for running... he likes some length.
A few guys come into the store and buy shorter shorts. They are runners though. Most buy the shorts that are small mesh holes for sports.
This is our best seller for men and boys. This mesh is slightly bigger than the other link I'm going to post.

This mesh is tiny, very very tiny.

Soffe also has a short that is a cotton knit that our gymnastics teachers wear. They look the same for years and years.
If you're talking about a dressier short for men, such as a khaki with a belt to be worn with a polo short or something like that then I think anything other than just above the knee is too odd looking. It always me think of Richard Simmons even if the shorts are longer and not that style.
I think all these shorts are the proper length for men going out to dinner or even to a party. I would think they would look nice in any of these.
I aim for right at the center of the knee for the boys. I'd do up to an inch above the top of the knee, but not shorter than that.
Not in October. Unless they were on sale and could be saved for next year.
About the length: my husband prefers them a little above the knee in the summer. He's not super-tall, and longer shorts look awkward on him. And when he works out his shorts look like, well, athletic shorts.
A.,
No. My husband really doesn't like to wear shorts. I think he has MAYBE 3 pairs of shorts. His swim trunks are 'traditional' and above the knee.
My boys? they both prefer knee length shorts. Even their swim trunks have to hit them at the knee or below it.
Yes. My husband prefers shorter shorts actually and they are very difficult to find!!! My son is a big kid and has always been at the top of the growth charts so usually his shorts are like pants b/c they have to be in bigger sizes around the waist. I wish I could find "normal" shorts for both of them!
I've been known to buy longer shorts and just cut them off. I usually only do that if they are on super sale, but I've done it!
