If your mom wont do anything about it, then you should go to the school nurse and tell her about the shortness of breathe. Then, ask the school nurse to call your mother and tell her that you need to be seen by your pediatrician. Hopefully your mother will take the school nurse seriously. If she doesnt, then go back to the school nurse and complain again. Keep on doing it until something gets done.

It could be acid reflux...even if you aren't having heart burn. That happened with me my whole life and I never figured out what was wrong with me until I was 30 years old. Ask your mom for some kids reflux medicine...please don't take anything without asking your mom :) Hope you feel better!

I'm not really sure how to answer this. Assuming this is legit (my only doubts are due to this being unusual, I'm not sure this site is appropriate for a 12 yo anyway - mom speech over), my first thought is why do you think your mom won't do anything? Is she being neglectful, are you pre-disposed to drama? As for what to do, if it's not that bad try a hot and steamy shower. If it is, who can you ask to talk to your mom for you, right now? There's a lot of things we don't know so it's impossible to tell you what to do. Hope this helps.

Also, I read your profile. Being 12 is not easy, so many things are changing for you and it's hard to know how to deal with it all. Good luck and try to remember that this probably isn't easy for your mom either.

It could be lots of things from not serious to serious so discuss this with the school nurse. The teachers, counselors and nurses are good resources. You should try to talk to your Mom about it. Maybe before, you caught her at a bad moment. Try again.

Go to the school nurse. Tell her how it feels and how often it happens. Write it down so you can record a history, such as, does it happen when you are sitting/after you eat/during p.e. or when you are being very active.... If your chest hurts, then you should call 911 if the school nurse is not available. Also, if you are having any problems with your health or mom or any other hard times in general, you can always go talk to your school counselor. That is what they are there for. Good luck!

My Red flag went up when I read this. Sorry but there are a few things wrong with this picture. 1. How did you come across this website?. 2. Being 12 I would assume you are home with your mother. Maybe not.3. Where was your teacher when you almost passed out? Go NOW and talk to your mother and tell her what has been going on. Mother's always know best and can really tell if this is an emergency or just pre-teen angst. If you will not do this then tell your teacher, councelor or school nurse. Many people around you who love you and know you that will help. Good luck.

J., I do not what is causing your shortness of breath but i definately think you should tell your Dad if he is available or maybe you school nurse. Has your mom taken you to the doctors for this before? if so what did your doctor say? Also are you eating properly? and when do get this shortness of breath? is it after running or extreneous activity? Do you have asthma? I feel you should tell some one in close to your in your family a grandmother or grandfather maybe. how about an aunt or uncle. If none of those are availabel tell the school nurse. she will help you.

As the other mom's suggest, go to your school nurse when it occurs. They can test your oxygen level and if they feel it is an emergency they will call 911, it it's ok, it could be related to anxiety. At your age, there are alot of things to be anxious about...mean girls, boys harrassing you, lots of homework, I have a 12 yr old and do understand how difficult it is for y'all. If your mom isn't helping she may think it's just "drama..." I know, sometimes we are wrong too. But see if she will at least take you to the doctor so they can make sure. It could be several things, but the doctor needs to be the one to find out. If it is an issue with insurance, mom can call 211 and sign you up for a very cheap possibly free health insurance. Either way you need to see someone about it. If it is anxiety because of things going on either at home or school, then a counselor or even a preacher could be helpful to talk to. You don't even have to attend their church, they just want to help. Ask your teacher if you can talk to the counselor. You could say it's about your classes, no one has to know. But help is out there you just have to keep asking! It took me several years after school to learn that! Hope this helps baby and feel free to ask us about anything that is bothering you.

J., I am glad you reached out to us but very concerned.

Immediately, go see your school nurse. She will be able to help you. I do think this is important and you should be checked out.

Secondly, if for some reason, you feel neglected or by chance if there are issues at home or anywhere else, please see your school counselor.
