What are a good sneaker or shoe for this age. My child will only ware the slipper kind, and they are off in the car. Or if I can get her to keep them on at the park, then they are off minutes later, or when we get back in the car. She takes off shoes and socks in the house. Any suggestions? I keep her in feet pajamas a lot. lol

What can I do next?

We've always been big fans of Crocs as my 4 year old has always been a barefoot kind of guy. They're easy on, easy off, protect his toes, and the stap keeps them on his feet. It's easy to find the inexpensive knock offs, too.

Alison,
I am looking forward to reading the replies to your request!

I have kept my son in the slipper pants, feetie pajamas the majority of the time. He now doesn't mind having socks and shoes on his feet!

He is barefoot 99% of the time in the house, unless we are going out, and we know he'll be in a place he can walk but we don't want him in slippers or barefoot.

I have been reading that having children learn to walk in their bare feet is much better: more conducive to learning the terrain, textures, and other aspects of balance and walking much more easily. So I don't think you're in a bad place!

I get it all the time in church and from older people: why doesn't he have shoes on? He's still learning balance. I give them my reasons, and let it be.

She is comfortable in bare feet. I think you're doing a great job.

Good luck!
M.

We used the slipper shoes for a long time, but our daycare provider made us switch to rubber soled show when our son started walking. We have had good luck with Stride Rite basic sneaker, and an Ecco hiking book we found on ebay. We have given up on shoes that fasten with velcro. A shoe that goes high up on his foot, and laces with a double knot works best for us. (But at almost 17 months he is starting to figure out how to pick open the knot...)

If it's one thing I hate, it's putting shoes on a squirming toddler! I've spent more money on shoes than I'd like to admit, and to be honest most of them are impossible to get on, and after a fifteen minute struggle they come right off

That said, these are great:

They are a little pricey, but they last forever, are easy to get on, and are really cozy for the kids.

Get Robeez or a simlar type shoe. There great for developing feet and they won't come off.

I always went for stride rite tie sneakers. The stride rites have very flexible soles which make them easy to walk in vs the ones you get from payless or walmart that can have very thick soles. If you get velcro they just undo the velcro and take them off.

It seems like she's not dressed when you are just bopping around the house so you might want to get her dressed every day including shoes just so she's use to them.

I agree with Gayle. Crocs, if she fits them. My daughter at eighteen months only fit the knockoffs size 5 that weren't as wide as regular crocs. They do make a slimmer Mary Jane version of the Crocs. Otherwise, I love Keds.

Pediped and Pedoodles are great! Flexible, comfy, stay on, cute cute cute, and pediatrician recommended......we love them! They both have websites that are just their names .com Check them out. :-)
I thought they were a little expensive until I looked in stores and they're cheaper than going to a store like Stride Rite. They have deals with free shipping sometimes and they come quickly, so that's not an issue. They tell you how to measure their feet to get the right size. They are sold in some stores, just not near our house, so we order them.
Good luck
