I want to bake a double round layered cake and ship them out to the families that we didnt have money to buy anything. How do I go about doing that? I know bakeries do it, but I'm afraid they wouldnt tell me. Thanks.

What can I do next?

I got a cake once that had been shipped. It had been frozen and then sprinkled with powdered sugar and wrapped in saran wrap and then in tinfoil, packed in a box with plastic bags to protect it from bumping around. The outside of the box also had a this side up arrow. It was shipped next day to me so I think that is why it was still fozen in the middle. It was excellent, but like I have read below it was a heavier cake with a heavy frosting. I think it was butter cream, but not sure. I have also seen them shipped with that fondant icing.

Good luck and hope this helps

I order holiday cakes from a bakery in Missouri (that's where I grew up, and the cakes are to die for!). They freeze the cake and then ship it in a Styrofoam cooler with dry ice. It helps to use a thick cake like poundcake with a thick icing like buttercream. Cookies might be better. You can ship them USPS priority mail so they would still be fresh.

Just call UPS, or somewhere like that and ask them. You may want to check a few places.

I would have to suggest having them frozen before and during shipping, so they aren't damaged as easily.
Good luck!

I would definitely call some local bakeries and call them, what do you have to lose?

I would definitely ship these cakes the fastest way possible to preserve them some and the idea of freezing them will help too!

M.,

Just call several different bakers and ask. What do you have to lose? Or find someone that bakes on the side and may be more willing to share info.
