I actually wear a brand called "Sweet Nothings" from Walmart. They have several different styles depending on how much "restraint" you want or need. I bought 2 different kinds of camis. One is lighter, kind of silky, but helps to smooth out the flub if I am wearing a loos-ish fitting top. The other is stretchy and much tighter, but not uncomfortable at all. I wear it under almost anything, from tees and jeans to dressier tops and slacks. It does not accentuate my muffin top unless I don't tuck it in properly and it later in the day rides or scrunches up. But I can wear either of these all day and it doesn't bother me. Absolutely buy jeans that fit propery. This makes a HUGE difference. Make sure the waist is mid-rise, not too high (under your boobs) not too low (more than 3 or 4 inches below your belly button.) Make sure they fit your hips and thighs, and have a boot cut or flared bottoms. (If you are tall and thin, you can do "skinny" jeans, but I'm not tall and thin, I'm short and slightly curvy.)
I like the camis because they are less restrictive and more comfortable then the "panty" style. I bought one pair of tummy control exspensive brand "panties" (or whatever) a few weeks after my second child was born and they did just what yours did, pushed all the excess to the top so it spilled over... yuck.
Good Luck! Hope this helps a little.
