We have lived in the Argyle area for 9 months now. I have twin boys who are 15 yrs old. They have played sports their entire lives!! Everyone in Texas plays on Select teams and they were told by their baseball coach yesterday that if they didn't play on a select team over the summer and fall that they wouldn't make the team next year. Help!! I am trying to find a select baseball team for 16 and under that is less than a 30 minute drive. I would appreciate any input. Thanks.

First of all not "everyone" plays on a select team.. that's why it's called select! Did their school coach tell them this or a rec. coach?? By law a school coach (if they're in an ISD) can not tell them that, they have T. allowed to try out regardless of whether or not they were on a rec. team outside of school. My son is on a select team and I am sure it is the same everywhere else (you have T. chosen or "selected" T. on a select team). Not to mention the season has already started so the boys will have to wait for Fall Ball. Call the baseball commissioner and he will be able to give you info. on how your boys can try out for select in the Fall. Now, if it was a school coach that told you that I would contact the super-intendant. Good Luck to your boys!!!

My son was told the same thing this year after we moved from California to Denton. I can't find a select team in Denton and had to put him into DBBI, which was okay, but the competition was lacking. I am trying to find a 13U AAA league for him to try out this fall for spring 2011. Any suggestions?

It shouldn't be this hard to get a child on a good quality BBT that allows him to grow and now he is stressed out that we won't find him a select team in time this year which will lesson his chances of making the HS team later.

W.,
I know that Flower Mound has a huge baseball organization that you should check out. Ask the coach to help direct you....he should know of many programs and be willing to offer more than just do it.

I would check the Lewisville and Flower Mound Areas they have several select baseball teams. My son play on the Highland Village select team for a season and has also been asked to play for several Lewisville select teams. You can call the Lewisville baseball association and they will direct you in the right direction. Good luck.

You need to go to the North Texas Interlock Baseball website. I believe most select teams are part of this organization. The city leagues really can't help as they run rec level ball not select. Here is a link to their site.

Most high school teams for baseball and soccer are the same. If you don't have club ball experience you are not going to make the team. There is a different mind set between club and rec leagues and players. Is it right? Maybe not but that is the way it is.

Good Luck finding a team for your boys!

Hi W. -
Go to www.fmysa.com (that is the Flower Mound Youth Sports Association website) - we have played with them in both rec and select softball wtih my older daughter and just rec for my 8 year old son, but I know that the boys select baseball is great - they have lots of teams. There is a "Select" section of the website where you can get contact info for each of the teams and find out if any are having tryouts any time soon. Some of them start gearing up for the summer, so hopefully you will find one that suits you - maybe even one that has other Argyle kids so you can carpool (lots of practices and weekend tournaments 2-3 times a month). It's not cheap and it is time-consuming, but it is a great way for your boys to improve their skills.
Blessings!
S.

Was the coach their high school coach? My daughter plays select sports but I would question any school coach that "requires" their players to play select in order to play school sports. Select sports does inprove their skills but in my opinion should not be a requirement to play on a school team.
