Sekking Good Health Insurance

I was wondering if anyone out there knows of a good Health Insurance Company. I am in good health (knock on wood) but a person never knows when they will need it. I have had one company called Mega Insurance and when I went to the hospital for an overnight stay, they paid nothing so I was donating to a company that is probably taking money from other people too and had a bill the price of a small car. Any response will be appreciated.

I am now a single mom of 2 and the kids get their insurance through their father. I sell Avon, am a Pure Romance consultant, AND am a marketing team manager from home. My point is that NONE of my jobs have good insurance for what I need. I have a great agent that got me on with Medical Mutual of OH. Out of everything she looked at for me, that was by far the best for my situation. Her name is Susan Evelo and she really took the time to find what was best for me. Her number is ###-###-####.

I'm pretty sure you can apply to Anthem as an individual. I did when I was in New Mexico. You can get comprehensive or just emergency type of insurance. I think at the time I paid like $15 a month for the very basic/catastrophic insurance. I was a lot younger at the time than you are now, but it would be worth checking. Also check with Humana. I would think that looking into well-known companies first is the best way to go. Sorry about the big bill. You should be able to make arrangements for a small amount each month. As long as you are paying according to agreed terms, it should not show up on your credit.

I am also 52 and without health insurance. I am looking at a policy through AARP. It is less than $15 a year to join if you are not a member. An individual policy for me was around $270.00. Another possibility is your local chamber of commerce. Membership is a little pricier, but they also offer group health insurance. Personally I think AARP is the better way to go and what I will be doing as soon as I have saved the money.

Hi M.,

Sorry I don't have any advice beyond checking with whoever sells you your home, auto, and life insurance policies....Maybe check with your state insurance department? They probably can't recommend, but could give you places to research.

I see that Mega is still up to its old tricks, we had the royal run-around with them about 12 years ago. Not pleasant.

Good luck!

hey girl - you've gotten some great responses so far!

I also wanted to let you know about AmeriPlan - our programs are just $29.95/mo for physician care, labs, x-rays, etc, and we also have a wonderful hospital advocacy program, where if you do end up in the hospital, they assign an advocate to your case, who works directly with the hospital to bring down the cost of your stay to the point where you can actually pay it. A friend of mine's father-in-law had this program, and a couple weeks after he signed up, was rushed to the ER where they found multiple blood clots in his lungs. The advocacy group took care of negotiating his bills, and their family was only responsible for $650 out of a total cost of over $26,000.

We also have a dental, vision and chiropractic program, which you can add for just $10 more a month.

Check out Kaiser Permanente. They are a nonprofit health care provider and work locally with the Cleveland Clinic. I hope that some of the "rip off" medical insurers will disappear soon as the nation focuses on health care costs.

I'm not sure where your from but I live in the Massillon area. I have insurance through work but a friend of mine owns her own dance studio and has insurance through Ault-One (I believe that is what it is called). It is through Aultcare. It might not help if we don't live in the same area, but you could give it a try. Good Luck!
