Hey ladies- I desperately need some disinfecting products that are kid friendly. I work at a childrens retail store and also have a 1 yr and a 2 yr old. My kids are at a private sitter so they aren't getting sick from other kids not to mention that I am also getting sick so I really feel like I'm the one bringing it home. Right now I am fighting a sinus infection and bronchitis on top of being 12 weeks pregnant. I'm ready for myself and my family to be well and health. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

What can I do next?

Hi Chrsty,
My son (now 4) used to like to lick the floor - I use products from Melaleuca and he has never been sick. They are environmentally friendly and most important kid-safe.
I have an ad in the Mom owned business section, or you can contact me for more info.

Hey C.,
I read your request. I love the Get Clean products from Shaklee! They are safe for even the littlest one's in the family. They also carry a stronger disenfectant called Basic G which works great!
Shaklee also has an extensive line of supplements. One of which is Nutrifuron, which helps ward of infections. Let me know if I can get you any more information on the products and the company. :) C.

I started mixing up my own cleaning solutions last year. My daughter has allergies and i wanted to detox my cleaning. It has helped. I use a solution of half cup vinagar, 2 tsp. Borax, and a pinch of dish deterdent. Mix it all with in a spray bottle with hot water. I ever put in a few drops of essential oils to have a good smell. i also use baking soda as a pan scrubber and to clean the shower and tub. sprinkle it on and spray with the cleaning mixture and scrub away. I also use a spray bottle with some bleach and water mixed up. I have hear of alot of people using Shaklee or Melaluca, but I find them expensive. I mix my own. Do a search for make your own cleaners and you will find some great solutions.

This is a major manufacturer of green products for cleaning products, tp, paper towels, laundry detergent etc. I also recommend a natural immune system booster like "Emergen C" - It's a flavored powder that you add to water but it's packed with the things your immune system needs to help fight off illness.

Both Emergen C and Seventh Generation are carried in regular retail stores like Walmart and Publix or you can visit a local natural store that specializes in natural products.

I clean my counter tops, my shower walls basically every thing with Vinegar. I put it in a spray bottle and add a little water.
You will be surprised how well it works. Also to if you want
to increase the power add a little Baking Soda to a sponge and wet it a little. It also cleans everything. This is old school products but they really work.

Hi C.

Healthy cleaning products are always a better option than breathing in chemicals, but you need to build up everybody's immune system with healthy whole foods, and limited sugar and processed foods. A whole food fruit and vegetable supplement for the family is a great way to get started. Check out www.wejuiceplus.com there is a ton of clinical research behind this nutraceutical. An omega 3 supplement(carlsons fish oil) is healthy and necessary for pregnant women and children, and a good probiotic would be helpful to rid the body of the bacteria that is causing illness and replace it with healthy bacteria. Check out www.bodyecology.com they have the best probiotics and my kids love them. I can help you with information on all of these supplements if you need. Remember healthy whole foods rich in nutrients are the best way to build the immune system.

Hello C.!

I work from home with a wellness company that sells healthier alternatives to leading brand cleaning, body and bath, hair care, makeup and over the counter drug products that you buy every month in the grocery stores. I started out as a consumer of the products, fell in love with them and started working with the company. My reason for turning to a healthier environment and lifestyle is my 7 month old daughter. I want to make her environment at home safe by cutting out the amonia and the bleach and the other harmful chemicals that are in cleaning and hygiene products, but at the same time get the same outcome if not better. I am very passionate about talking about the products because I use them myself. I have referred people to these products that have certain health problems, which have ceased since using these environmentally safe products, For more information, you can go to www.livewellonline.info and request information. You can also call me at ###-###-####. I hope you feel better.

Though no one wants their kids to EVER be sick, please keep in mind that getting a mild illness now and then is a GOOD thing because it builds up a body's immunities. You wouldn't want your kids to be sick for the first time when they hit kindergarten because their bodies wouldn't know how to fight it off and a mild cold would be way worse.

I'm sure you will get tons of answers about "green" products you can go out and buy, but I make my own and save soooooooo much money. Here is a great website to get you started
http://checnet.org/healthehouse/education/articles-detail...

I use the recipe on that site where you mix Borax, vinegar, and hot water-- I think the hot water just helps the borax disolve because it works just as good once it cools down. I also add a couple of squirts of liquid soap and a couple of drops of peppermint essential oil so my house doesn't smell like vinegar. Either way, neither the vinegar nor peppermint smell lasts more than a few minutes anyway. I make this mixture in a spray bottle and use it for everything. I use it in the kitchen and bathrooms daily.

Also, for deep cleaning I don't measure these ingredients: get a plastic cup and fill it about one third of the way with baking soda. Then slowly pour in vinegar. Do this over the sink because it will erupt! When the fizzling settles, stir and you have a soft scrub that will easily eat up the most caked on dried toothpaste or whatever has dried on your countertops. If I don't use it all up in one use, I let it dry out and then just add water to it the next time I need it.

As for getting your family "well and healthy"... I'm sure I won't be popular for sayiing this but I swear the people I know who seem to have the sickest families who keep passing around illnesses are ones who do the all-natural, all-organic route. I'm not saying everyone who does that gets and stays sick, but it's suspicious to me.

Handwashing is the best thing to do. It has to be for at least 20 seconds....sing the Happy Birthday song to yourself fast and you'll know you scrubbed long enough.
Also, every night after I put my little one to sleep I walk around with that Clorox Anywhere Spray and spray toys, light switches, handles, and anywhere else hands touch.
Maybe you could keep a pump bottle of sanitizer at your work and use it regularly. I'm sure all the money exchange and touching merchandise customers have touched doesn't help. I always think that a person with strep or flu is going to have touched something right before me without me even knowing.

Good old White Vinegar kills germs and it's non toxic...I use 50/50 mixture in a spray bottle.
I also buy Simple Green; but don't know that it disinfects. It only says: Household cleaner, which I like over bleach.
Germs are beneficial for us in small doses so as to build an immune system. But we get overwhelmed when bombarded...
Zinc, goldenseal and vitamin C are staples;
also, Source Naturals' brand called "Wellness Formula" is a God-send. It has all of the immune system boosters.
(You will get used to the smell, eventually.)

Aww, honey. My heart goes out to you being a mom and being pregnant and having a cold. Not easy. i just went through that. so i currently have some cleaning products that are homemade after a consultation with a lady that cleans with natural products that are homemade. We filled a spray bottle with water, vinegar, a small squirt of natrual dish soap, and some drops of essential oils. some antiseptic essential oils are lavender, tea tree, lemon, and eucalyptus. You can use this spray on any surface. Other good natural cleaners are baking soda for scrubbing sinks, bath tubs, etc. most things can be cleaned with these items. Oh, and hydrogen peroxide is also a good cleaner and disinfectant. And did you know you can put a spraybottle top on it, if you cut the bottom of the sprayer's straw off? good luck and I hope you feel better. Also my family has been taking elderberry with Vitamin C to boost our immune systems.

You need "Holy Cow all purpose Cleaner" It is environmentally safe, food surface safe (FDA approved for food surface use, Non toxic, no ammonia, alcohol or harmful chemicals are in this stuff, it is biodegradeable and organic, they also don't test on animals (if that is important to you!) - it smells really nice (better than your vinegar and water stuff!) and is a great degreaser for counter tops, granite, and stainless steel appliances. It is safe for ANY surface and even safe to use on carpet stains and it really works! I use it everywhere in my house. It is a little difficult to find sometimes, but Walgreens carries it and some Ace Hardarwes do - you can order it on their website if your local store dosen't have it. It is only about $3.50 a bottle too.
Good luck!

I am not sure what to use to disinfect your house, but my family uses echinacea to build our immune system. It helps the best when i use preventive, but double the dose if your are already fighting a cold and it will cure you quickly. It is also good for blatter infections. Extra vitamin C and zinc is also helpful.

Thanks,
K.
