Seeking Reliable & Affordable Childcare

Hello all you mothers out there. PLEASE HELP!! I am in desperate need of some ideas on where to look for quality childcare that is affordable. As you know, finding a caregiver for your children is one of the most nerve-racking decesions you will ever make. We have recently found ourselves faced with this decision of choosing someone to come into our home and care for our kids. We live in the Kentwood/Grand Rapids area and have received childcare information from the Kent 4C's program, and quite frankly I am finding myself extremely overwhelmed with all of the options they offer. I don't necessarily want to put an open ad in the newspaper for childcare either, but I am not sure what else to do. Most of the places we have called want over $220/week for one toddler, and that is just not in our budget by any means. Does anyone have any suggestions or reccomendations where else we can look or where we can search for other options? Instead of a childcare facility, we would really like to keep our kids in our own home for childcare and have someone come over to our home. I am thinking some of you other mothers have faced this dilema before and I am eager to hear what you have done. Thank you in advance, and God Bless.

What can I do next?

Hi D., i totally understand where you are coming from. There is nothing more stressful than looking for someone to care for your precious prides and joy. Do you happen to work downtown? Does your oldest go to school full time? I am a child care provider close to downtown- 5-7 minutes fromt here that is that would love to talk more with you and help you out. Take care
Thank you

D.,

I have recently received my license for in-home daycare and would love to speak to you about possibly taking care of your son. I have a son that will turn 4 in October and a 6 month old girl currently enrolled. I can assure you that I wouldn't charge you $220 per week for daycare. I live in SE Grand Rapids, my family is bilingual and your son is guarenteed to have lots of fun with us! If you are interested, please contact me at ###-###-####

Go to www.sittercity.com. You can put in your zip code and find sitters who are willing to come into your home and watch your children. You will only find out basics when you first browse the website; their age, what ages of children they feel comfortable watching, if they will run errands with the kids, if they know CPR, what they charge, what hours they are available, etc. If you find some sitters that you are interested in, you can pay a fee and get their contact information, a background check and then interview them. Good luck!
