Seeking Recommendations on Car Seats for Grandma's Car

Hi, does anyone have a recommendation for a safe, easy to install, yet inexpensive convertable car seat? We would like to buy two so that my mom can take the kids places when she babysits them. Our girls are almost 4 years old and almost 2, so they are both in the "convertable" car seat. We have Britax Roundabout's in our car and love them, but don't want to pay $200 for each car seat in grandma's car. Thank you for your ideas!

What can I do next?

I am looking to sell 2 Evenflo carseats in an upcoming garage sale. One is a Triumph and the other I cant remember off the top of my head. They would fot the 2 year old probably not the 4 year old. Never been in an accident, great condition. Let me know if you want more info.

The ones we have (3 of this same model) is http://www.babyage.com/eddie_bauer/53639/eddie_bauer_delu... You can find a less expensive seat from the same brand; I love the brand and they can convert to the toddler seat and still have the 5 pt harness. Babies R Us sells this seat.

We are having a garage sale on June 6th and I have a FP Safe Voyage seat going in it. My little boy outgrew and is ready for a booster. I've only had it for 2 years! Email me if you are interested! Otherwise I would go with a Graco brand. Maybe go with grandmom to BRU and have her try out the seats to see which is easy for her...

We recently bought an Evenflo Convertable seat with five point harness from Target. It was only $60 and works just fine. It's not as nice as our other seats, but does the job. We also bought a high back booster from Evenflo and that works well too. That one was even cheaper.

My advice would be to just pick up a couple of used seats from a garage or mom to mom sale. That is what my mom did. She actually got a couple of really nice seats for like $10. Just ask the seller how old they are and if they've ever been in an accident (highly unlikely). Most mom's just use them for a couple years and just want to get rid of them because there child has outgrown it. Perfectly good condition, and good for you since the kids will only be using them when in grandma's car.

My advice is not to skimp at all on car seats. Make sure whatever you get has a high safety rating. I like the Eddie Bauer Convertables...they are 160$ ish...cheaper than britax.

E.,

We are also fans of Britax for safey reasons. When we needed to buy a second set for our nanny's car (2 more seats -- we have twins), I bought the Fisher Price Voyager seats. They are made by Britax, but sold under the Fisher Price brand name. Much cheaper, but still good quality.

I would also recommend www.albeebaby.com, as someone already mentioned, if you want to buy the car seats new. I have purchased many items from them (4 car seats, 1 stroller), and have gotten great deals.

You can get the Fisher Price Voyager car sets on there now for $110: http://www.albeebaby.com/fiprsavodeco1.html

Check under their closeout sections as well (http://www.albeebaby.com/closeoutitems.html), often you can get less popular patterns and/or last years model at a great price. I think they have some Britax on sale now too.

Hope that helps - good luck.

Hi E.!

http://babycheapskate.blogspot.com/2008/09/best-convertib...

if the above link doesn't work, try the website www.babycheapskate.com, scroll down & she has some reviews from other moms on convertible carseats under $100, under $175, etc.

Also, www.albeebaby.com has some great deals every now and then & free shipping.

Our Grandmas have Eddie Bauer Cosco (I think is the name of it?) and they're okay. We also have a Graco Nataulis 3-in-1, which we LOVE. But a lot of times what we do is transfer our Britax seats into our parents' cars. Kind of a pain, but by far the easiest seats to transfer!

Good luck!

I am not sure about how easy they are to install but if I were to but a new carseat right now I would but the Graco Nautilus. It goes up to 65lbs with the harness and then converts to a high back booster then a backless booster! If your parents have the latch hooks it shouldn't be too hard to install!
Blessings, K.

E.,

Of course as you already know the Britax seats are the best out there. If you're interested I have a Britax Wizard seat that my children have recently outgrown. The Wizard is the same as the new name Boulevard. I originally paid $265 for it and I'm asking $85. The cover is new. If you're interested in seeing some pictures just send me a private message.

Thank you,

C.
