I am looking to find a therapist for my mom. Would need to be close to the near western suburbs. she wouldn't have time to travel too far. I need to find a good one - cause if I'm successful in convincing her to give it a try - I'm only going to get one chance. :)
My mom is awesome. And a very strong woman. But I'm worried that she really could use someone to help her through some hard times lately. She's a young 73. Has 4 adult children, 8 grand children. Still works her own business-very successful. And has great friends. Heck, her social life is better than mine :).
In the past 3 weeks she's found out she had a brain aneurysm...had brain surgery...successful...but really emotional...and just 2 days ago, her companion of 14 years since my dad died, had cardiac arrest and died. She's just had so much I'm thinking if I can find a really good recommendation she may give it a try.
She's not too big on opening up her feelings though. She's a helper. A worrier. She likes to stay busy helping others.
She may do it, she may not. But at least I can do the leg work.
thank you all for your suggestions! I am researching them all! :)

I am a therapist in Oak Park if your interested in this area. I utilize creative arts and am trained using sand tray therapy for individuals both young and older who have a difficult time expressing their feelings verbally. Also I believe Pillars has an agency in La Grange with good outpatient services. Good luck to you and your mom! This is a difficult time for her and a difficult transitional period in her life. Finding support in addition to your support is a great idea!

Hi - Is Naperville too far? I love my therapist and her office is in Naperville. If you'd like her info go ahead and PM me =)
I don't know any specific therapists but tell her that when I was in school to become a social worker (helper) they told us its very important for helpers to have someone (a therapist) to help THEM. I order to be the best help to others, you need to take care of your own needs. Physical and emotional. Maybe that will help you convince her :)
