I live in Merrillville. I go to
North Point Pediatrics in Crown Point. It's right by St. Anthony's hospital. You can try them. Their phone number is:
###-###-####. They have several Dr.s there. I personally see Dr. Vicente. She's very nice. I have also heard that Dr. Gold is nice, too.
Good luck to you.

I live in Merrillville And I have been going to a great Pediatrician for over 9 years. He is always available and is genuinely concern about his patients. You are not just a number there. He always makes good decisions for the child and includes you in the process. His name is Dr. Parikh ###-###-####. I also have a great dentist. He is gentle and my kids actually argue about who is going to get in the chair first. He his done work on my children and they have never been scared or uncomfortable. He is a great dentist. His name is Dr. Halum 219-924-kids.

Hi I recommend Dr. Aaron King he's at the Hammond Clinic (there's 3 locations) the # there is ###-###-#### he and his staff are very nice and highly recommended. My daughter spent her first 5 weeks in the NeoNatal ICU (she's 5 now) and he came very highly recommended by the hospital staff. As for a dentist on Broadway in Merrillville there's a childrens dental place and they are very nice there that's where I take my daughter. She was very scared but they were able to talk to her and calm her right down. As for the schools I can't really help you there. I know they're not the best but they're also not the worst.

I have a wonderful pediatrician for my 7 month old daughter. They are associated pediatricians but they are in Valparaiso. It takes me like 30 min to get there but its worth it. They gave me a binder with all their physicians info in it, like where they went to school, how long they have been in the practice etc, plus helpful hints for babies, children etc...like if your child is choking, what to do etc. They have opened the office for just me on a Sunday when my daughter was running a fever. THey answer their pages at 2am when you have problems and they are friendly about it. I would recommend any of them. My specific doctor is Diana Brogan, but we have seen all of them when my daughter has come down sick....because we usually take any appt they have that day. Their number is ###-###-####. I DONT recommend the child life center in Merrillville, that is where we took our daughter first and they are rood, impatient, look at you crazy when you ask questions. We took her their for her 1st appt and I walked out crying because they made me feel stupid, so we changed immediately. I dont know any dentists, my baby is too small. I dont know about the Merrillville school system either, sorry.

Hi, I'm in Crown Point, but I have friends in Merrillville who use the same ped. doctors out here in Crown Point...North Point Pediatrics...I recommend Dr. Gold (very highly recommended around here) and Dr. Brewer (new to the practice and very throrough).

Hope this helps...depending on where you live in Merrillville, it shouldn't be too far...it's right by St. Anthony Hospital.

Hi L.,

I myself am about to move to the Merrillville/Crown Point area from Hammond. My son is 11mos, but we're not planning on sending him to the Merrillville public schools - I haven't heard such great things about them. However, the Crown Point schools are excellent, and I know that you can pay tuition to get into the gradeschools.

We use Dr. Stroman in Dyer, about a 15-20 min. drive from Merrillville, and totally worth it. I love him because he gives his cell number to his patients and is available to you 24 hours a day.

Hope that helps!

When I was pregnant with my daughter 6 years ago, I wanted to get into the office of Dr. Gold in Crown Point SO bad! There was a waiting list. The doctors with the best reputation, I wanted them (of course) for my child, and I would have to wait. So I went to another doctor until Dr. Gold's office was taking patients again. I STRONGLY suggest Dr. Gold and her team. The are located just South of the Lake County Fairgrounds and St. Anthony's Hospital. The dentist I use is Dr. Kostides. He's a family dentist. My daughter is VERY shy around strange men, but she's comfortable with him. He has some young kids of his own, so he seems to relate very well. As for Merrillville schools... I have a cousin who works in an elem school there, and she says the system isn't all that, that it leaves a lot to be desired. It's not as bad as the Gary schools, she says, but not as good as Lowell or Crown Point. Working with delinquents myself, I see enough of our kids coming from there, but not a lot. They come out a little more often than most of their surrounding communities combined, but that's still not close to the amount we get from North Lake County. Call other school corps and compare their ISTEP scores, as well as their No Child Left Behind and Gifted programs. Then go from there. Good luck!!!
