After a surgery 2 years ago I started getting a lot of muscle and joint pain numbness in my arms sleeping problem, and just plain tired all the time. After many hospital and doctor visits I was told I have fibromyalgia. I would like to know what others are giving for the pain what activities you have found helpful and just want to learn how to cope with this. Thanks for all and any advise

What can I do next?

I have a couple of personal training clients (moms) who are dealing with fibromyalgia. We have a combined holistic approach that includes a non-dairy and non-gluten diet, accupuncture and massage, and supervised exercise sessions. There is a very fine line with activity as too much can put you into a tailspin, but too little can be even worse.

Hi P.,

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 8 years ago, I do not take any prescribed meds for the pain. I occassionaly take asprin if the pain is unbareable. These are some of the things that I do, walking up and down stairs when doing laundry about 3 times a week. Grocery shopping about once a week and taking my time making sure to walk in every isle. Parking as far away from the door when I go out so that I can walk. I find that when I am more active the less pain I have. I work in my garden pulling weeds and planting veggies. I find when I am not active at all I have more pain, however I refuse to be put on any medication. I also drink plenty of water, no soda pop, very little canned juice; I juice fresh fruits and vegetables when I can. I try to stay as active as possible, but not overdoing it. I don't think about the pain, I do not as if I am in pain, and I don't claim the pain. I hope this helps

While I don’t have fibromyalgia, I do have lupus. I was diagnosed in 2006 while pregnant. I have had, and still do at times have the horrible joint pain. I have to agree with the previous post, that I feel better when I keep active. I walk on the treadmill every morning, and take the dog for a long walk ever night. I watch what eat – limited dairy and meat. I don’t drink pop, and really limit my processed sugars and packaged food.
As for meds, I take Cell Cept, Plaqunil, Asprin and Folic Acid. Each of these is to keep my symptoms in check. The sooner I can get off of them, I will. While I hate taking all these pills, I know I probably wouldn’t be alive today. If you every want to talk, send me an email. Good luck, and blessings!
