Seeking Organization That Accepts Donations of Stuffed Animals

I have 3 children and we have accumulated masses of stuffed animals which look brand new. I was wanting to purge some of them and donate them to any organizations that may accept them or an organization that sends them overseas to underprivledged kids. Does anyone know of any place. Thanks

What can I do next?

Hi L.,
When we moved I realized we had sooo many "gently loved" friends that needed new homes also. I found an organization called Suffed Animals for Emergencies, http://www.stuffedanimalsforemergencies.org/. It looks like a great way to pass along cherished friends to other children who would like a little comfort. I ended up donating mine to another organization although I can't remember which one. I did a quick google to find the name of this specific one that I remembered and there are MANY non-profit organizations that accept used stuffed animals for children both in the US and abroad.

Hope this helps.

Dear L.,
that is so thoughtful of you. You could include your kids with the helping of packing up the stuffed animals so they can learn a lesson! I used to volunteer at a crisis pregnancy center in Annandale. Their website is www.assistcpc.org
They would LOVE stuffed animals. And to get rid of germs and dust mites, throw them into the dryer on low for 15 -20 minutes or spray with febreeze. But you could also google any crisis pregnancy centers near you. Plus I know at the one off of Backlick Road in Annandale, all donations are tax deductible. There is also one located in Alexandria off od route 1.
Also I know that our local fire station takes stuffed bears and gives them to kids and moms.
Good luck!
Pammy

Hello L., I know my sister has donated to the local firefighers. You might want to call them and see if they take them but they tend to use them for child who have lost everything in the fire. It's a great cause and the stuff animals get a great home. So check with the local firefighers in your area.

hope you find a great place for them...

The Salvation Army takes just about anything and especially likes good-condition toys. While they usually sell the items to fund their programs (rather than giving the items directly to the needy), they do have an excellent reputation for using their money well and they provide a lot of vital services to the poor. So consider the Salvation Army. Goodwill and others may take them too. You may find it tougher to find charities that give older toys directly to needy kids; most charities seem to sell donated items so they can raise money for their programs. Good luck.
