I am hoping some of you have had experience (or know someone who has) with Addison's Disease and pregnancy / childbirth. My sister is currently waiting for the "okay" to try to get pregnant. However, she was recently diagnosed and put on medication (think it's to help her adrenal glands produce cortisol) for Addison's Disease. She is scared as this has all been a bit overwhelming. I am just curious if anyone has had any experience with this or has any words of encouragement that I can pass along to her? Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

Wow the first person even near me that has Addison's. It's so rare that I haven't found anyone in the area with it. I have Addison's and have been on treatment for about 2-3yrs. It started with Adrenal fatigue and finally Addison's. I belong to a message group that probably would help her call ____@____.com is where I have learned the most about the disease. I do know many people on the board that have had children with little or no problems. I was diagnosed after having kids so I'm afraid I can't really give much advise there. From reading there many people have posted the same question and everyone has been helpful very helpful. I would recommend that she join the group. It's a bit challenging to balance the medication and know when to stress dose the steroids. Addison's or AD folks also tend to run low on salt. I recently felt really bad and drank some bullion (sp?) that is loaded with salt. About 15-20 later I was back to normal. She is welcome to email me if she likes. I've been studing the disease for many years and might be able to help answer some of her questions. My e-mail is ____@____.com let her know that many people have had healthy babies that have Addisons, you just need to take your medication and know when to adjust it. She might also need florinef at some point as well. This controls the salt/potassium in the body. Take care...

My husband was just diagnosed with stage 3 adrenal failure and it's pretty much along the same lines as addison's disease. He has gone to eating gluten free and no dairy also I heard tomatoes are bad but not real sure on that. Going gluten free isn't that hard it's a little bit more expensive on the grocery bill but worth it. She will just have to look at labels and there is a health food section in Kroger by the pharmacy and they have stuff from chips, pastas, to making your own bread because bread it BAD too, or I go to local food markets. I have read alot on this since his diagnoses and the best fruit for people with adrenal problems is blueberries. I myself have gone gluten free as a way to lose weight and I feel better now then I have in years and the food is not all that bad. Good luck and if you or she has any questions please feel free to contact me via here or my email ____@____.com

Hi K., I have a very dear friend who's husband was diagnosed with Addisons several years ago. I will email her to see if she learned any info about pregnancy and Addisons or any advise/direction she may have and forward on her response if it is helpful.

God Bless,

I've had Addison's for a long time now and on Cortef. My adrenal glands do not work at all. Also have been recently diagnosed with hypothyroid disease too. I wish there were a group to go to for Addison's for patients with it. I can help if need be.
