Has anyone's child undergone a nasal endoscopy? My child has nasal polyp and asthma and breathes thru the mouth. ENT is recommending 1 hour surgery - Has anyone gone thru this surgery?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

thank you everyone who responded regarding Nasal Endoscopy. My son finally had the procedure done during Easter/Passover vacation. He had no packing in his nose and just had to sleep upright for about 2 weeks. He can finally smell things now especially his one friend who has terrible B.O.
Thanks again for your support.

I have not had a child that has required one but both of my friends children have. She was very thankful that procedure was available. Her son was almost 1 before he had the procedure done & she made sure her daughter was checked early. Her daughter is almost 3 months & she is already slated for surgery. Breathing comes much easier without something in the way. Hope all goes as well for you.

Hi D.,
I work at the local hospital where these procedures are done all of the time. My daughter had to go through a similar surgery, but withiut the polyp removal. She was suffering from sleep apnea and snored like her father. I know your nervous about the procedure, as we all are when our kids have to go through any type of surgery, but in the long run your child will benefit from this procedure.Your ENT is probably thinking the polyp will enlarge eventually, which will be alot harder to remove later on.I know that the ENT's will make sure your son/daughter is very comfortable and the Nurses will not discharge until they know that all is ok. There might be some nausea and vomitting-due to anesthesia, and he/she may have a sore throat -or feel like something is in there-for a few days.I would stock up on clear liquids-popsicles. Try to stay away from any dairy products atleast for the first few days-this will cause phlegm build up. My husband went through this and then some at the age of 33-It was worse on him he should have had the surgery earlier in life.My daughter did alot better at recovering then he did.I hope this helps-send me a note if you have any further questions.Good Luck

my sn is now 6 years old. But at the age of 8 months old he was the second youngest child to have his tonsils and adnoids out. He was a trooper, but he did want his mommy right after he woke up. It was very hard for me and his father. I actually had to be the one to bring him into the surgery room while they gave him the meds to put him a sleep while the procedure. Soon as they gave him the meds they let me out.
Just be strong, if it helps your child just thnk of that.

Well I have a daughter who is seven and she had a surgery for sleep apnea. It isn't exactly the same but she had to have her adnoids and tonsels taken out. The procedure was done when she was 4yrs. old. It was a very quick procedure and she was fine.
