I have been shown this amazing product and can now see my family while I talk to them in real time! I was just wondering if any of you out there have seen anything like it or what your experiences are with something like it? My girlfriend got one and her 1yr old granddaughter who lives in Arizona now goes to the phone and says "gamma" and she got to see her walk for the first time as it was happening!!!

What can I do next?

Hi M.,
My family also uses Skype. It works pretty well with most of our family (both sides are far away). Sometimes with my parents it will drop the call because they are on a slower internet system, but we can call them back right away. I'd recommend not trying to do it with any system with anyone who is using dial-up internet. The video just will not be clear and will show slow and delayed movement.

I let my parents see my kids daily by streaming live video to them over internet, using Yahoo Messenger (which allows streaming video transmission). It required having a computer with a video camera hooked-up in the family room. Almost every day when we came downstairs for the day, I would turn the camera on...and anytime my parents were at their computer, they could check to see if the kids were "on." They LOVED being able to see the kids play throughout the day, and were able to see the first time my son start crawling.

We had problems with transmitting sound. But if something funny or exciting was happening, we would call each other via phone while they were watching.

This was completely free for us, as we had all the equipment (the computer, camera and high-speed internet).

We have the Logitech Quick Cam PRo 9000, and use the Skype service for video calls. The calls are free from comp to comp. It seems to work better than yahoo messanger.

I am also interested in this - my sis is in L.A. and has kids. I have a logitech camera. I record videos and send them but the quality is terrible - I'm using DSL, so I'm not sure what the problem is. When I see Skype on Oprah, it looks so great and clear. My sis doesn't have a camera yet - or doesn't have it hooked up, so we haven't begun doing any instant communication via IM video or skype, but skype is free? I'll have to check it out. I think what we like about talking on the phone is that we can be doing other things while talking, but yes, sometimes it's nice to be able to see each other.

M. - I have a IM and I bought a camara for computers. If we conect with the messenger at the same time, we can start a video call and talk to each other and see each other in real time, plus, the video is clear y the voice is real time also.
I also heard about skype, you also need a computer camera for that, but you can connect with your family and see and speak to them in real time! very nice!

We also use Skype because it is free, and we already have a web camera to use for it. Works great!
