I have a 10 month-old baby boy who doesn't have any interaction with other children at this point. How best can I socialize him and where?

What can I do next?

Hi S. -
I live just outside Montclair and also have a 10 month old boy - I would love to get the boys together on the weekends if you are interested (I work full time - so the weekdays are out for me). Let me know - the next few weekends are hectic - we are finishing up our summer vacations - but maybe once school starts and things settle down a little.

Hi, Welcome to Montclair. You're lucky to live in a beautiful and active community. I know there are a lot of MPOA sponsored events throughout the year. If you're looking for something with children his age and for a chance to bond with other mothers, have you considered joining a Mother's group? When I moved to Woodbridge last year I joined the Prince William County Stay at Home Moms Meetup http://sahm.meetup.com/1408/
I enjoy the meetups and playdates and have made some lasting friendship as have my children. I joined when my youngest was just a few months old.

There are other mother's groups out there, the MOMS club of woodbridge, for example. I am not a member but I was a member of the MOMS Club of Springfield and it was a similar experience.

Another group that is beneficial for Moms in particular is MOPS. http://www.saintmargaretschurch.org/content.cfm?id=2088
I'm a member of this chapter.

I recommend going to a few events from a couple of groups to get a feel for the members and the type of events and the overall group before you join or two or all three! =)

Feel free to contact me directly if you have questions.

You can do a search on the internet for play groups in your area. It should bring up any listed groups and you can see how other mom's in the area have rated the group. The internet also usually has listings for local parks and playgrounds that you could try and just see who is there. If you are a member of a gym, they often have nursery's that are good for short periods of interaction. It can give you a mini-break but you're not leaving the building so the stranger factor is a little less nerve wracking. churches and fellowships and also good for kiddie interaction. most have nurseries during the service and, again, you're in the same building. there are tons of different churches, synagogues, fellowships, etc... out there. my husband and i just took a weekend and drove around visiting everyone we saw, until we came to one that fit w/ our belief system. hope that helps!

Hi S., I see this is a pretty old post, but I wanted to tell you about the Montclair Moms meetup group, since our sons should be right around the same age. My son was born in November 2007, and since I couldn't find a mom's group in the area, I started my own. So far we've had over 100 meetups, mostly playdates, and we have over 60 members in and around the Montclair VA community. If you're still looking for places and things to do with your son, check us out at www.meetup.com/montclair-moms.
