Have you ever seen that television show "I didn't even know I was Pregnant". There are woman who go up to full term, not know they are pregnant and have a baby. You are doing great by knowing you are pregnant and taking good care of you and the baby.
The baby will grow, and you will look as pregnant as you fell. Good luck and Congrats!
R., when I was pregnant I didn't hardly show until my 7th month I still wore my regular jeans until 8 months in. Some women gain a lot of weight and some gain barely enough. Talk to your doctor as long as you are gaining weight and your doctor isn't worried you do not need to be either. I didn't really get big until about 2 weeks before I had my son then I really showed but even then wasn't really big.
Yup.
A lot of women don't pop until month 5 or 6. Aka weeks 22-27. Some not until week 30.
________
The condition where some women didn't know they were pregnant until they delivered is USUALLY when the uterus grows "up". We don't have a lot of nerve endings in our abdomen (even feeling a kick is nearly always "out", feeling on your skin. They kick interior as well... But unless its on a full bladder... We don't feel it. So when a uterus grows upward, pushing organs around... There almost no way to tell. You can't feel them move. You might only gain 2-3 inches on hour waist (not even enough for a pants size, typically. You don't have a ton of pressure in the usual paces (cutting off in the legs, causing edema, etc. nor the huge weight hanging off your back causing back pain, spreading pelvis, etc. About the only "symptom" is intermittent diarrhea & missed periods. But many women are irregular, and some women continue to have their periods throughout pregnancy.
it actually makes a lot more sense for uteruses to grow this way (most mammals do) EXCEPT that it makes delivery extremely difficult (literally back breaking) in about half of these cases. (The other half give birth as easily as a cat. Depends entirely whether the uterus has gotten stuck on ones vertebrae.
You don't have to worry about that, though, because its super obvious in an ultrasound. They'd have seen if your uterus was stretching up.
So wait a month or two, and you'll bump.
Sure. I didn't even show until after 7 months, and I never had to wear maternity clothing. I didn't have to wear more then a size up the last month or so. Some people just don't get that big.
Is it your first baby? Then yes, you're only 4.5 months along. I was barely showing at that point, it wasn't until 7 months that I really looked pregnant. Keep going to your monthly doctor appts. to make sure all is fine.

Welcome to mamapedia!!!
Sounds right if it's your first baby. Also depends upon our body shape and size.
if your doctor isn't worried about it- you shouldn't be!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Totally normal. I didn't show much until I was 7 months with both of my pregnancies.
Yes, two of my cousins barely looked pregnant when they went into full term labor! Depends on your body type, if baby has room to stretch out, etc.
Does your doctor have any concerns about your size/baby's size? If not, I wouldn't worry about it. You still have a long way to go...belly will grow!
What does your ob/gyn say? This is a question for the medical community instead of moms. If you are uncomfortable with your doctor's response, seek out a second opinion.
Dawn
I did not look pregnant with my first three until 20 to 24 weeks! This is probably your first. My fourth I was in maternity clothes at 8'weeks.
First baby? Sure.
I was 39 when I delivered my son, I didn't wear maternity clothes until after that.
Are you getting regular prenatal care?
Congrats & good luck!
Sure, especially if its your first baby.
I remember waking up around 5 months pregnant and nothing fit. I *popped* out over night.
Is it your first? What is your average size per-pregnancy? And, "not that big" is kind of vague. See what your doctor says:)
This is very normal for a first baby, but I encourage you to bring questions like this to a medical professional.
Every pregnancy will vary. With my first I look liked a was carrying a house. The second I didnt show until about 6 months along and my third didnt show until well past 7 months.
And it was all normal but compared to the other mamas I was backwards lol.
Blech, Riley, did you have to put the image of a uterus stuck on vertabrae in my head? Guess that answers whether I'm having three...shudder...
I hardly showed at all with my first until about 22 weeks. Then by 24 I looked like I swallowed a basketball. I had an ultrasound at 19 weeks and the tech was teasing me for keeping my baby "all squeeshed in your pelvis."
