Seeking Mom's Opinions on a Home Business....

I am seeking mom's opinions on a home business making home-made cards. I have been scrapbooking for about 8 years now and was recently introduced to stamping and making home-made cards. I instantly fell in love with this and would love to start my own business making cards to sell. Ever since I have started scrapbooking, I have wanted to have my own business making scrapbooks for people who do not have the time or know where to even begin doing it themselves. When I was introduced to the card making, I thought I could start my business that I have dreamed of. So, what I would like to know is would people be interested in this kind of service? I have also recently made wedding invitations for my step-sister's upcoming wedding - so I could incorporate this into the business also. I have so many ideas of things that I could make with scrapbooking and stamping, I just do not know if this is an interest in this kind of service. Another reason I am thinking about all of this now is because the company that I currently work for is closing their doors by the end of 2008. I could possibly be out of a job by the end of the summer, so I am thinking this would be the perfect time to get started on a business that I have dreamed of!

So What Happened?

Thank you to everyone who shared their opinions and thoughts with me. This has been a scary decision for me! I am currently in the process of making samples of my work for upcoming craft shows. I have a few stores in my area that I am going to approach about selling my cards as well!

I would much rather buy a home made card than a store bought card. I have my own home business as well and just met up with another mom in business who makes cards to sell. They were beautiful and I purchased 2 for mothers day and one for my cousins birthday! I say go for it. Tell everyone you know and set up tables at events. That is a wonderful way to meet new contacts. Working for yourself is wonderful. We get to decide when we get a raise, when we want to work and who we work with!!! Good luck to you.

Hi J.
I would rather buy hand made than factory made any day. Maybe you could pop in to a wedding store, see if they'd carry a sample book of your wedding cards. Also try local business to see if they'd carry your cards. There's etsy.com, and all sorts of people on this site who used to do marketing, you could post of marketing help question. You could teach work shops at home, or a church, or like home partys. Heck try Micheals craft store see if there hiring, and do cards at home too, maybe you'd get a discount on supplies. I'd love to see hand made by mama's stuff at convince locations like target.
Good luck. A. H

Greetings J.,

GO FOR IT!!!
You are absolutely right, this is the perfect time to start on the business you have dreamed of!
This time of the year there are many outdoor events people go to who love and are looking to purchase handcrafted merchandise. Tell family and friends you are now in business and also check with them on festivals and other events that you could possibly vend at.
Much success to you on the business of your dreams!!!

Love, Peace and Joy,
S.
