Seeking Local Babysitter

My husband and I recently moved to Washington Twp. We have no local relitives the closest are in Brighton. During the work week we take our son Devin to day care (he is 1 yr and a half) but our babysitter usually has just the weekend for herself and family time. My husband and I desperatly need to go out for "adult time" and there are many other things we would like to do also. IE: workout, movie, etc...Our problem is that we don't know anyone and are unsure as to how to find a local babysitter. If there are any suggestions out there we would be grateful! I've searched links for "local babysitters" but trufuly they are too expensive. I remember when I was younger I would babysit for a fraction of what the ads were asking for. Has babysitting really gone up that much? Idealy we would like someone who is still in school has transportation and can be reliable and trustworthy. Also able to call on short notice. Thank you in advance for your time and help! P.S we have 2 cats and a little doogie:)

What can I do next?

I also just called my church and asked if they could "put the word out" and I told them how much we'd pay an hour- $10 for our then 4mos infant. We got a couple girls interested. I invited them over individually and interviewed them and watched how they did with our baby. We tried the on-line sites and discovered and many of the people had outdated schedules and information... it was a waste of $. Sometimes, banks or laundry mats have "posting" areas where people may advertize their services. I liked the idea of calling OU too... you may try the "residence halls" because there are 100's of students living there and I"m sure a staff member can put the word out (except now school is out of session).

Maybe you could try calling Oakland University?

PM me if you'd like.. I know someone in Macomb that may be willing to babysit.. last summer she was charging me $5 an hour and she drove herself and was great!

HI. I know a group of young ladies from my church who babysit. They all work in our church nursery on a regular basis, and they watch kids in the church on the weekends. I am not sure where you are located but we go to church at First Church on Dequindre right past 17 mi going towards 18 mi. You should come and check it out.

Hi if you get a local or community paper sometimes they advertise or list local youngsters willing to babysit.

If you belong to a church or a local moms group you can ask if they know anyone.

Also if you have any free time, babysitter coop's are usually free since it is local moms helping each other out.

Good Luck I know it's hard adjusting to family life and still having an adult life.

God Bless

N.-

We find our babysitters at the following places: our daycare (mostly college girls who cannot find teaching jobs) and our gym (mostly college, some highschool girls. We pay them $10 an hour for 2 children (4 years and 6 mos). But we also paid 10$ an hour when we had just my son.

You can check out sittercity.com, but I believe you need to pay a montly fee.

Word of mouth is generally the best...can you sitter recommend anyone? Or ask you neighbors?

Good luck!
