I am having issues with my 6 day old wanting to breastfeed. I am looking for a lactation consultant to help me out. Any suggestions? I would like for someone to meet with me in person. I live in the fort worth area.

Harris Methodist Hospital (downtown)has a fantastic BreatFeeding Resource Center. They typically get you in very quickly and will bill insurance for you. Their number is ###-###-####. Just in case their prefix may have changed, you can also call toll free 1-877-421-7969. Good luck to you! They truly made the diference for me and my son.

I had great luck with the help of La Leche League. Their leaders are usually very generous with their time and very knowledgeable. Good luck.

I completely agree about calling Harris. They were a lifesaver for me. They are the only reason I was able to continue breastfeeding my third child. They will consult with you over the phone as much as needed for free, and there is a charge (but it is well worth it) if you meet with them in person. I have found them very helpful. Let us know how it goes!
Call Harris Methodist downtown today. They have people on staff that can help you. It is totally normal to need help - very few people do this on their own. Good luck!
I don't know where you delivered but at Harris Southwest, they have a wonderful breastfeeding program, very supportive and helpful. They have lactation consultants on staff that will see you there in the office, and help figure out what's going on. I don't know if she's still there but Susan was wonderful and used to host a weekly brown bag lunch for breastfeeding moms and babies.
I suggest calling them at their main number and asking for the lactation consultants because I don't have the number any more. They may also have information on the website.
Let me just say, hang in there, if you really want this it CAN be done! We had a VERY difficult start. I didnt get to try latching my baby on til he was 4 weeks old, after being taken by c-section 4 weeks early. I had to pump for that 4 weeks to give them the milk to put in his feeding tubes and later little bottles. I ended up having to use a nipple shield because he did not understand how to nurse with anything but an artificial nipple. But I used it and managed to nurse him just fine for just over two years! One of my proudest accomplishments of my whole life! He's now a very healthy, precocious, beautiful energetic and intelligent kid and I'm proud to be his mommy.
So no matter how tough your start, it can be done if you really want it.
Contact the hospital you had the baby at. They all have lactation consultants who are willing to have you go in and will sit with you while you nurse to try to help with any issues/concerns. It's a little stressful in the beginning, especially with your first, but don't give up! It will all be worth it. I've nursed all three of mine. Don't forget, you are learning how to do something new right along side with your baby. Be patient and as calm as possible. They can feel the anxiety. Good luck!
