Hi A.,
I chose Dr. Bazos for my always-wary son. The hygienist explained what she was going to do in a way he could understand. He is in CS in the K-Mart plaza on Wiles and University. ###-###-####
My daughter had 3 cavities filled and two mini root canals (stainless steel crowns) today. She was given novacaine but the dentist was very against using general anesthesia. I was on the fence because I can be VERY over protective so I tried to check myself and go with the flow. She was terrified the entire time they worked on her and my anxiety was at its peak as I helped hold her. The office assistant tried to schedule her 6 month cleaning and my daughter started screaming "I am NEVER coming back here! Uh uh!! Never ever again!". I feel like we completely ruined her experience. Does any have a Pediatric Dentist they absolutely love? Please share why and if you have any dislikes about them as well. I don't think I will take her back there.
Also, my 23 month old had her first visit last week and they had me hold her down in order to complete her cleaning. She kicked and cried the whole time. I sat there being torn between knowing I am over protective and feeling like I was traumatizing my child. I can't imagine what my next visit with her will be like.
To answer Michelle's question:

What's even more bizarre is that everyone in the office is super nice. They are all soft spoken and try to be soothing. The place is covered in Nemo murals, has TV's playing Disney movies while the kids are worked on, an arcade room. Dr. Garcia spoke to my daughter in such a calming voice but didn't think anything of the screaming and anxiety she was displaying. So surreal. I know she has a job to do but there has to be a better way. I sat there wondering how she could have an office that appeared to be so kid friendly but not think anything of the damage she was doing by her approach. Also note the two kids she worked on before my daughter screamed then entire time as well.

what a nightmare!! A., i wish you had asked me first, before they had that experience. Dr. Frederick Kirsch in Coral springs, (University and 19th) , I think the number is ###-###-####, (not sure, doing this from memory, but the last 4 are definitely 7770) has been seeing my kids since they were babies, and they are teenagers now. First of all, no reputable doctor/dentist would EVER ask a parent to hold a child down for treatment. At his office, they don't even let the parents in! All the kids are in one big treatment room....I think psychologically it calms them to see that the other kids are cooperating so they have nothing to fear. They never use the word "needle" or "shot" and in fact do not always need novacaine, depending on how deep the cavity is. My son once had a tooth pulled and they gave local for that, but he didn't even cry and wasn't scared at all.... a far cry from what I remember as a child! Dr. Kirsch and his staff are just that good. When you call to make an appt, please tell your experience to the person on the phone....she might suggest a way to make your older daughter less apprehensive, based on her last experience. Really, I was surprised b/c I was in the habit of explaining everything to my kids beforehand, but they told me not to do that and it really worked! He has a nice aquarium in the waiting room and lots of Miami Dolphins decorating so you can tell your daughter about the fish and football and maybe take her mind off the fact that she is going to a dentist. I'm sure you will all have a much better experience!!
My kids absolutely love Dr. George. She is in the strip mall by Outback on Riverside and Ramblewood. My kids are 6 and 8 and have never said anything but good things about their dental experiences there. Both have had to have teeth pulled and they have come out smiling.
i know in boca, off of 441, there is a place called Children Dental, that use lasers to do what the drills used to do. if you don't want to make the drive maybe you can call the office for a referral in you area.
What a shame. And to think she'll lose those baby teeth anyway. It's not right to have her go back to that dentist. I was mortified by my childhood dentist, so I can relate.
My three boys actually enjoy their dental visits, cavities or not. We have been going to Dr. Marisol Ruiz for over ten years. The all-female staff is friendly, and compassionate. She's in Boca on Palmetto Park and Powerline, maybe more of a drive for you; but worth the phone call (Santina is the receptionist) phone is ###-###-####
Blessings, S.
A., OMG!!! That is just terrible. If you don't mind me asking what dentist are you using now? I am looking for a dentist for my three year old daughter and want to make sure I don't use whomever your currently using.
A., I just showed my husband your message and he was horrified as well. He said you need to report the dentist that did that to your daughter. Being that she is only 4 1/2 years old her baby teeth will fall out. That kind of work should not have been done to that extent.
You need to call the Florida Department of Health and the Florida Dental Board to report this and let them investigate the dentist. God for bid they do that to another child or has done that to many others already.
