My family and I are going to Lancaster, Pa in a few weeks for vacation. We wanted to go stay at a campground but they're all booked. Does anyone know of any nice, kid-friendly, clean ($ reasonable $) hotels to stay at in Lancaster? (My kids are 1 and a half and 2 and a half). Thanks

What can I do next?

Hi J.,

This place may not be the price point that you are looking for, but I want to tell you about it anyway. It is called the Bird-in-Hand Family Inn. My family stayed there 2 summers ago and it was terrific! It has 2 pools, mini-golf, a great playground and a petting zoo. They also have a nice buffet restaurant and it is right next to a farmer's market. The hotel was a vacation in itself. The kids had a blast there. here is there web site:

Good luck and have a nice trip.

Hi J.,

My family and I always stay at the Red Caboose Motel in Lancaster. It's right next to the Strasburg Railroad. It's nothing fancy, but our son loves it and he'll be 3 in November. Our nieces also think it's "cool" to sleep in a caboose and they're 14 and 12. Each room is in it's own caboose or train car with double beds and bunk beds and a bathroom, of course. They have a farm with all sorts of animals and buggy rides, too. Good Luck!

J. Look into the Bed and Breakfast places. we stayed in one called Verdent View below is the link. The place is old but clean and the farm is fun for the kids to play around. They have Cats, Dogs, Goats it is a dairy farm so there are cows. We found it to be very reasonable. family of 5 it was about $60.00 a night that was a few years ago. The down side is we had to share the bathroom with another family, but for a little more they have rooms with their own baths. There is plenty of things to do all around this area. There is the Cherrydale farms which is right around the corner has some neat things for children that are your ages. One thing that we did really enjoy but your little ones might be too young is the Sights and Sounds Theater they have live animals in most of their shows. The Strausberg railroad is up the street from this place also. You could also pay a couple of dollars each and get breadfast at the farm. The milk was amazing it tasted so good. My kids who were somewhat older got to milk the cows. There are other B&B's also. I was totally amazed at how much cheaper the B&B's were compared to the local hotel. There are also two outlet stores not far from this B&B called Tangar and Rockvale. I believe Rockvale is better priced. There is a store named the outhouse that is fun but your children might be too young to really get into it. Of course there are plenty of places to eat. My favorites are Good and Plenty or Plain and Fancy. In East Earl, Pa there is an all you can eat country store and restaurant called Shady Maple Smorgasbord if you get a chance check it out. Well I hope you have a grand time in Lancaster. It is one of my favorite places to go. good luck J.

I did a scrapbooking weekend with the girls and we stayed at Willow Valley. There are two (kinda three) pool areas. One just for kids! One pool area has rooms surrounding it- you just walk out your room and there's the pool. THere is also an all you can eat buffett in the hotel. It was really nice, clean and reasonable! Here's the website:
www.willowvalley.com
Also, the outlets are just around the corner!!!! They have weekend deal, kids stay and eat free deals, etc.....check out the website! Hope this helps!
