So What Happened?

I know it's been awhile but I wanted to update everyone on my status after the HSG I had back in May 08.....it went great and now almost 4 months after the procedure I am approx. 6 weeks pregnant as of 09/10/2008 and very excited....maybe those tubes just needed a little cleaning

Hi-

It's not that bad, really, the slightly uncomfortable part is when they shoot the fluid in your uterus. They will make you rock side to side so the fluid runs through both tubes. It can make you feel a little "crampy" - but it doesn't really hurt.

However, after I was done, I got really lightheaded and nearly passed out. Not sure why, but if this happens, the nurses are ready with juice.

I've had friends that have gotten pregnant after doing this, but alas, it didn't work for me. Turns out, we were lacking on my husband's end. ;) I'm assuming he has been tested?

Feel free to contact me personally- I went down the TTC path and can share many experiences, a sympathetic ear and a happy ending.

Good luck!!

I had that done when I was first trying to get pregnant. The doctor told me to take a motrin or something like it before the procedure. I did, but I wish I had taken more. But since you have been pregnant before the pain might not be as bad. I know now after giving birth that it's no where near as painful. Just a dull ache like menstrual cramps or the first pains of contractions.

I found it extremely interesting to see my uterus up on the tv screen. It really was cool. As soon as the instrument was out there was no discomfort. The whole thing lasted maybe 10-15 minutes. Ask lots of questions and have them explain what they are doing because its pretty interesting. They tell you right then if there is something wrong.
Good luck! It's not so bad.

Hi Jameelah-

I had an HSG done last Spring and am 31 weeks pregnant now.

Definitely listen to the doctor when they tell you to take a Motrin or whatever before the procedure. It feels like a lot of pressure- but it's quick. I think mine took maybe 10 minutes, total.

Also, the doctor told me that a solid percentage of women who have an HSG end up conceiving within 3-4 months of the procedure. Not that the procedure is intended to aid in conception, per se, but that in many instances, it does.

Good luck!!

Hi,

I had one last February and it was quick and relatively painless. Some cramping but it was over fast. I got pregnant two weeks after the procedure and just gave birth to another beautiful, healthy baby girl last week. Although my tubes weren't blocked, the HSG was still therapeutic. Good luck!

Hi,
I had this done when I was having trouble conceiving. It was pretty easy. I had to go to the hospital for it, but other than that it wasn't much more of an ordeal than a pap smear. My ob-gyn injected a dye into me, then the radiologist used a big x-ray machine to see the dye go into my fallopian tubes. It was actually kind of cool because I could see the dye make its way up. They could tell right away that my tubes were fine.

I've also heard that for some women it can flush out your system and even if you don't have a blockage it will help in your conception efforts.

Good luck!
K.
