Seeking Ideas for a Luau Wedding Shower in a Few Weeks

Hi Ladies, I am needing some great brain power today. I am throwing my cousin a wedding shower at the end of July. The theme is a Luau Wedding shower. I thought that would be cute since she is going to Hawaii for their honey moon. I already have a ton of decorations and things of that nature, but I need some ideas on what kind of party favors that I can make up for our guests and maybe a couple of games. Something cute but not overly difficult either. She lives out of town but has a ton of family still here in St. Louis, so she will be flying in. Any ideas that you could offer me would be wonderful! Thank you!!!

What can I do next?

I use to live in Hawaii and you could have some leis you can find at a party store or see if you can find some hawaiian chocolates...I had choclates from Hawaiin Host which had individual pieces. We got it at the Costco in Hawaii...not sure if they have it here or you can go to www.hilohattie.com to get them or just look up their website. You can maybe try also bigislandcandies.com Maybe you can also have either pineapple shaped glasses or something to take home. For games, we played draw your dream house where we took a crayon or something and put a paperplate on top of your head and try to draw a dream home for her. I can't remember the other game we played right now.

L., I am also going throught the same venture because my little sister is having a backyard wedding and since there is a inground pool we have really spun the Hawian theme on this. I had little beads ingraved with the wedding date and names and then strung them into necklaces and bracelets with shells and even made hair pieces with hibiscus for the brides maids to wear out on the night of the bachelorette party. It was inexpensive and fun to make. I also put sand in little bottles with tiny shells and colored water with corks and put date stickers on them. A cute game is how many frogs did she have to kiss to find the prince and everyone writes down a number and who ever is the closest wins. (That's for the Bridal Shower)

We had a wedding shower for a friend who lived out of town as well and although it does not correspond with the luau theme, we did a taste of St. Louis for the food. Since provel cheese and toasted ravs are only found in this area, we provided food that you could only get here. Examples: Imo's pizza, Ted Drewe's, Gooey butter cake, salads with provel cheese, toasted ravs...anything that makes a connection with St. Louis. She loved it because she always tries to go to all her favorite restaurants while in town to get a taste of everything. Just a suggestion.

I just went to a luau shower last night. They had a big bowl on the table with a sterno flame in it that was beautiful, I think it came from bed, bath, and beyond. They also had a flower crown that went around the brides head...across the forehead and around the back, that was adorable. As a gag they wrapped up a silk flowered bra that they got at Trader Joe's. The hostess had made darling origami flowers that fit into the place cards, and her centerpiece was a clear glass container with shells on the bottom and floating votive candles. She also had some coconut cups that had little candles (the candles were in glass containers inside the coconut cups). They served white sangria, sparkling lemonaide (from Trader Joe's), and some other tropical drink. The meal was simple with grilled chicken medallions, grilled vegetables, a salad with candied pecans and craisins, fruit salad, and a sweet cornbread casserole. It was delicious and simple and very elegant, everyone was saying it was one of the nicest showers they had ever been to. The only games we played were the name and date on the bottom of the plates, and the bride picked 4 numbers from 1-(however many gifts there were) and after she opened all the gifts, whoever was writing them down numbered them and those 4 numbers won a prize. The ladies said they were happy not to play games they hate playing games (I thought that was interesting) The prizes were notecards with tropical flowers and recipe cards with tropical print on them and I think some soap or lotion with a tropical scent. Hope that helps!
