When my daughter turned 13, we rented a hotel suite. The hotel had an in-door pool and she invited 3 girls. We ordered pizza and had it delivered to the pool area. I also had a friend who made cakes. She made the most beautiful carosel cake. Almost looked like a wedding cake. After the girls watched movies and we popped popcorn in the microwave. They had a blast.

My daughter turned 13 in November and we celebrated with a homemade cake, she knows I hardly ever cook so she was surprised! She decided she wanted big gifts so she only invited a couple of friends over. I took them to dinner at our fave restaurant and then a movie(TWILIGHT)which came out on her bday. She was so excited! The girls stayed over had cake and icecream they played board games gave each other facials did their nails and pedicures and watched another movie at home the rest of the night. My husband and I sat with her and had a talk about responsibilites as you get older. We decided to open her a bank account with her very own check card and she was so excited when she made her first deposits (birthday money). Now she can't wait to do extra chores around the house to get money to deposit.

My 13 year old has had a party at the beach for the last four years. We rent a cabin for a weekend, take 4 or 5 girls, another mother to help me keep an eye on them and have a blast! Leave Fri. afternoon after school, they swim and do beach things, I usually cook spaghetti the first night, we order pizza the second. I bring stuff for breakfast and lunch. Bring lots of movies and sun screen. I have some back up plans if it rains- a cabin on the beach is still kinda fun in the rain but I know which movies are on in the little beach town nearby- just in case. The only real cost is the cabin...and we go to Quintana Beach County park near Freeport- not too pricey. She's a Sept birthday so it is still warm enough but not too crowded.
For my January birthday I have taken 3 friends to the Marriott in Sugar Land where we live and gotten a room for the night. We walk around the square, eat dinner and dessert and then get a pay per view movie to watch in the room. The 4 girl get the 2 queen beds abd I get the roll away. They loved being able to run around the empty square late at night- I video taped them dancing in front of City Hall at midnight! And then we had room service before we came home the next day. Lots of fun! And I don't bother with party favors at this age. They don't care.

Hi L.,

Well I can tell you what I did for someone else's daughter for her 13th birthday, at the time I was working has R.M.T (Registered Massage Therapist)there were about 6 girls and each got between 10-15 min. massages like their feet, hands, arms, and I polished their toes and finger nails and did their makeup and I gave goody bags for each of their girls. The bags contained lotion, nail polish, nail files, lip gloss. I charged 100.00 back then, each therapist is different, but I can tell you those girls loved being pampered they had a great time. They had a sleep over it was a pj party and the mom served finger foods and flavored bottle water so it was healthy but good and the only thing that was not was the cupcakes. Well I hope that helped out. Good Luck!

For my youngest daughter's 13th birthday we had a movie party. I set up the dining table like a movie theater candy counter with popcorn in movie popcorn buckets (you can get them at a party store or World Market), twizzlers, etc...They got to goof around while everyone arrived and then she opened her gifts and cut the cake. After that they all crowded around the TV and we put in the movie (Disturbia, which was just grown up enough to be sort of scary but all the parents were still cool with it) and they watched (and screamed along) with it. All the kids had a great time and it made for a nice way to end the party. Kids talked all year about what fun her party was (and none of them seemed to mind that they were all crowded around a 27" TV).

Hello L.,

I am a Senior Beauty Consultant. In the past my friends have asked me to come to their house for their daughters birthdays. I give them a free facial, free hand and lip pampering. With the facial I teach them how to start taking care of their skin. At this age naturally their bodies are changing and pimples start coming out. It's important for them to learn how to take care of their skin now. Then my friends in the past have bought a lip gloss or Satin Lips Set for each girl. Then since they are already to go since having their facial and light makeup applied they have taken them out to dinner or to a movie and then they usually have a sleepover. I live in Spring. Give me a call if you should need my services. ###-###-####

Of course a sleep over is always great. Show the movie, "13 going on 30". Let them learn the dance from the movie, then record it..You can give each girl a copy of the DVD with all of them performing the dance.

Take them somewhere a little fancier for a really nice dinner. Or have a fancy dinner at your house and hire college guys and gals to serve.

Take them on a camping trip, with ghost stories and smores.

Take them Tubing on the river with a big picnic at the end.

Take them to Gruene Hall for dinner and music. Call them to see who is playing. I was there once and there were kids there with their parents dancing.

In Austin the kids would LOVE to have a party at Schlitterbahn. I am assuming your kids are tired of it?

FYI, I have discovered that 13 year olds love the "Visa" gift cards (HEB) sells them. I gave one to my nephew and one to a neighbor who turned 13, they both LOVED them. My niece asked if I would please remember to give her one when she turns 13.

I had a roller skating party for my 13th. But I might suggest a slumber party. They are fun for that age girl.

Rent movies, get stuff and let them do facials, manicure/pedicure.

Have each girl bring a shirt, pants, etc. and get a couple of bedazzlers and studs and let them decorate their clothes.

Hi L.,

The transition to adult is so important. I can still remember mine. It was the first and only surprise party my parents threw for me, and it was awsome. My dad took me out to pickup up pizza (i didn't catch on that we picked up 5) and when we got home he asked me to go grab a movie from the basement. When I got down the stairs there were all my friends (12 girls) yelling surprise. We did each other's hair, my mom gave us her curling irons, rollers, gel and all kinds of ribbons and bobbypins. We had a book of styles and took tons of photos. We didn't do makeup, but that would have been really fun too.

If she's not a girly girl than you could always do something that is more her style, everyone go horseback riding or something.

One idea is to have a Beading Party. String Me Along Party offers beading parties for girls 5+ (and adults.) They bring the supplies to your house and help the girls create their own jewelry to take home with them. It takes around 2 hours and the girls leave with their own creation. If you are interested, there's more info at www.stringmealongparty.com.

I think the party ideas depend on your daughter. Is she anxious to be an adult and do something "adult like" like dinner out, where she and her friends dress up, get their own table and order for them selves. Is she anxious to be a teenager, and maybe just moving the living room furniture out so they can dress up, do make up and hair, have a dance/ karaoke party. If she is like my kids, they want a 'non party' just with friends, no decorations or goody bags. Not allot of fun for me. I have a couple of friends who have done the totally different, over the top, back yard food fight- definitely memorable.
I don't think there is a set amount you are expected to spend, its just what the kids would enjoy.

When my daughter turned thirteen, we had a dressed up party at a tea-house with four friends. I made goodie boxes out of small brass cricket boxes (you can find them at a brasswares store or online very inexpensively) and put small trinkets in them - ribbon chokers, charm bracelets, an embroidered handkerchief and a couple of wrapped bonbons. We had a real British high tea (we even held the party at 4:00) and the birthday cake was a delicious cream cake. She blew out a votive for her candle. It was all very ladylike and somewhat Victorian (my daughter was way into everything Victorian at the time). We played tiddly-winks - can you imagine that children don't know how to play tiddly-winks anymore? - with rose-ribbon bookmarks for prizes.

This would be a good party for a more bookish sort of girl who enjoys old-fashioned things. All together I spent about $100.

Hello L.,
You could have dress up party fashion show of maybe 6-8 friends in / at a hotel and sleepover.Video the show and play it back for them on the hotel television the next morning.Let them pick a themed person they want to be. Have plenty of Makeup, curling irons, gloss and dress up clothes on hand. They could play games and do facials nails and hair. I am a photographer. If you wanted this event immortalized, call me if you desire my services.I am also a Lic. cosmetologist I could do some touching up as well. This package would consist of a group photo for each girl.

I am having the same issue, my daughter will be 13 in May. I have no clue what to do. On my son's 13th though we rented a limo had all the kids meet at our house for pizza and sandwhiches before they left. Then the limo took them to the kemah boardwalk and we got them all wrist bands so they could ride rides. Then the limo picked them up and took each one of them home. My son made a cd of his favorite songs and it played in the limo the entire ride and then I gave each kid a copy of the cd he made for a party favor.
I am going to keep checking your responses for inspiration for my daughter, LOL.

At this age, my daughter began to want large gifts instead of parties. I noticed parties were becoming less and less with her friends as well. We had a nice family gathering with a few of her friends. Also, a nice dinner with a few friends with a movie.

Well first, when your daughter turns 13 this is a really big deal in their eyes, this is the when they become a teenager. And this is the perfect age to help her celebrate it.
I am going to be 13 next month and lets face it, I super excited. Like all girls we want our parties to make a "WOW!" impression on our girlfriends. So my mom and I were talking today and we have a couple party ideas in mind...

1.) Paris theme♥

Okay so this party theme incudes:
. Pink, Black, and White Balloons and Streamers
. Pink and White marshmellows (as a Snack)
. Pink and White roses (for decor)
. Little eiffel towers found at Party city 4 for $5 online
. Pink, Black, and White Paper Plates, Cups, Napkins
. Pink Table clothe
. Pearls to spread around the table and give for party favors
. Pizza <- did come from Paris
♥ We also thought after the cake and pizza, presents we could just hanh out and watch the movie Monte Carlo which is rated PG. And cool thing, some parts of the movie feature Selena Gomez in Paris, which goes perfect with our theme! Maybe you could also do each others nails!(:

2.) Mall Theme

What teenager girl doesn't enjoy shopping???
Tell the girls to bring some money. Take them to the mall and list things that they need to find throughout the mall. All done? Take theme to go get their nails done, or watch a movie!(:♥

Hopefully I helped and Have a Happy Birthday!♥
