I agree with going with your auto company, but also make sure you look closely at your policy. Find out if it's for depreciation value or replacement value. Replacement value will be higher, but it will pay out more to actually replace your items as opposed to a figure the company assigns for depreciation. Also, if you are displaced, check to see how long they will pay for alternative housing. Some put a limit on it.

Put your home and auto together so you get a multi-policy discount. You can't compare your insurance rates to anyone else's, for either home or auto. The premium is based on many different factors so it's not comparable with anyone else. However, call an independent agent who can quote you with many different companies to see which one has the best rates. It's called "shopping" you policies. By the way, insurance is not something you want to cut costs on. Sitting in the middle of an accident you don't want to think, OMG, is this going to be covered?! That's the whole point of paying monthly, so you don't pay thousands or hundreds of thousands without insurance. Good luck.

I'd go through whoever has your auto insurance so you can get a discount.

On line quotes are very easy, and so is talking to a couple of brokers in your area. Most brokers represent more than one insurance company, and they get paid based on their service to you. They know, if they don't take care of you, you can leave and go elsewhere!

The cost of insurance varies by the amount you want insured so it's not just a question of the company, but of the amount of coverage.

I'd also inquire about the time required to settle claims. If you ever make a claim, you don't want to be sitting there forever. So equal rates or similar rates can be tempered by customer service.

We had our insurance broker (the same guy who handles our business insurance) quote our homeowners' insurance. If you do not have such a person, call companies like State Farm, Farmers', GEICO, etc. Some insurers will not insure in certain areas, so you may have to call quite a few places. Ask your neighbors who they use! Keep in mind that you may want to have a higher deductible in order to keep the cost more affordable. Our broker showed us the numbers, and there was a significant price decrease once we chose a $2500 deductible.

FMI is truly the best IMO. We had them when we owned our houses & never had an issue with any claims. The reason I chose them too was bc I worked in the insurance field & they were one of the most reputable companies. As far as expense, their rates were competitive....but then again you get what you pay for. And truthfully, they were well worth it :)

Bundle it with your car insurance. Call your agent.

Who takes care of your auto insurance?? Many companies do both home and auto. Call them.

State Farm does home insurance.

If you have a phone book - I'd say look in the yellow pages under insurance.

Good luck!

This is a pretty straightforward thing to get quoted.
Get quotes online or just call a few companies. Be sure to check with whoever you have car insurance or life insurance with, you may get a discount for multiple policies.

The first place to look is with the agent who insures your car.

The most affordable policies are those that are bundled... car, home, etc.

If you want to search different rates and options, go online. We can't tell you who is most affordable or not because rates are not universal. Some states have higher rates, housing is priced based on age of the house, condition of the house, outstanding loans on the house, past claims, deductible amounts and more.

Start with the agent who insures your car. You do have car insurance, right?
