Seeking Help with Book Shelves

I am a teacher at Imagine Renaissance Academy (Imagineschools.com). This is our 2nd year for our Elementary program K-5. Our school library (we currently don't have one) has laid heavily on my heart. I put in a request awhile back to see if people could give me ideas to get our library going. Because we are new and had to purchase curriculum and furniature for classrooms, funding is tight. Anyway, I had a few responses and haven't seen results yet, but some things are in the works. I am hoping someone out there knows a business/church, etc. that is willing to build shelves or donate old shelves for our library. I know that sometimes businesses purchase new shelves and just discard the old ones.
If you are cleaning out your child's room and plan to take the books to goodwill, please email me at ____@____.com. I will gladly pick up the books to add to our library.
Thank you!
S.

Hi, I am with Usborne books.

Let me know if you are in need of free books!

For the months of Aug and Sept, I can offer Double free books to hostesses! If you can get the parents involved then everyone who books a show off of yours, you can get $20 worth of books for $5 at their party!

Let me know if I can help you further!

I also work for a school where we had to build the library up slowly and surely, so I feel your pain! I don't have much advice in the way of shelves, but keep looking for businesses who are getting rid of their shelves, also check in with the public libraries as sometimes they change their shelving too.

In the way of books there used to be a place called the Book Bank and it was a non-profit that ran out of the old ATT building downtown KC. You had to make an appointment but once you got there you could take as many books as you wanted and they were all free. In fact, the woman told me over the phone one time that unless I was going to take 100 books it wasn't worth her time! ha! I haven't used them in a long time, but it might be worth checking into!

Finally, and I'm sure you've done this, but look into grant writing because you can get a whole lot of brand new shelves with some grants that are out there! Good luck...

HI, S.. Have you tried freecycle.org? It is a great place to post things you are looking for and who knows who might be able to help you out. You can post that you are needing books, also. It is worth a try. I hope you get all you need. God Bless.

You could:

Contact an office supply store and see if they would donate the shelves to your school. It would be a great tax right off for them. If you can find some local mom and pop shop, you might have even more luck.

Find an Eagle scout who is looking to do a project. You might have to find the money for the material, but he would definately build you some nice shelves.

Again, I would post an ad on freecycle. The people there are great, especially if they realize it is going for a good cause.
