Seeking Help with an Unusual Diaper Rash

my son has an unusual diaper rash.  The pediatrician had me take him to a dermatologist.  The dr. not 100% sure but said it could be folliculitis or warts.  Anyone ever heard of either in a 17 mo. old?  He has also been running a low grade fever for 5 days.  I am giving him a prescribed cream for folliculitis but was told to give it a month.

What can I do next?

K., I never heard of it, but it doesn't mean it's not possible. I would be alittle concern about giving him something prescribed if they don't know. That is one thing about drs that I get annoyed with. They don't know so they'll prescribe this and that and this and that until they check it out and know for ure and then they give you something prescribed again to hope it'll help with that. I would stand and put my foot down and tell them you want to know exactly what it is and is it painful. I looked up Google and didn't get to read, but here is the website http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&fkt=2406&fsdt=...=
I copied and pasted it here and don't know if it comes up or not, but check into it ad see what you can do healthy way for your son. My sons had terrible things on their buttocks and it was yeast infection and the only thing worked was Desitin and it was GREAT and I still use it on my baby. Prescription they had did not work, nothing but Desitin. If you can make it clear that you want to know what itis and you don't know if this cream will make it worst because it wasn't follicles. You are a wonderful mom for caring and ntoicing and doing something about that for your son. GREAT JOB MOM!!! Way to go!!

My daughter had folliculitis at roughly the same age. It looked like small red bumps and some had a white head almost like little pimples. After taking her to the doctor, they put her on an oral antibiotic (don't remember which one) and it cleared up in a week.
Good luck!

Dear K.,

I once had a child with warts at my daycare. He was 2 years old at the time. Warts are a virus which could explain the fever. I thought that folliculitis was an infected hair follicle but I could be wrong. From what I know about the warts I was told they were contagious. Be careful when applying the cream I would use gloves in case it is warts. He was allowed to come back to daycare but as I said we were sure to use gloves when applying the medication.

K. I looked it up he had Molluscum Contagiosum I think that is the spelling. it is not as bad as it sounds though he was fine once the medication was applied. Hope this helps good luck and Happy Holidays!!

Hi K.,
I am a nurse and as I read this question, the only thing I have concern about is the fever. I am not sure if it is related to the rash or just viral however any fever over 5 days is worth going to the Dr for. My thoughts are that this may be turning into an infection that could need an anti biotic.

It isn't thrush? My baby has a diaper rash due to thrush. I suppose that the pediatrician would have ruled that out but I wanted to make sure!
